Preseason State Super 50 (Part 1)

Our first five to start the 2016 football season is hugely influenced by previous results because we simply can’t rank Mater Dei of Santa Ana (highest ranked from the state in many national polls) ahead of a St. John Bosco team it has lost to six straight times. That kind of ranking needs to be […]

FB: What are preseason rankings?

Here is a version of a column written last week for the Stockton Record, which is a column that I do every week for that paper. This is not the edited version — which frankly was better and much tighter (thanks sports editor Bob Highfill) — but this version is easier to post on our […]

Final, Expanded Top 50 (No. 1-20)

De La Salle may have won the Open Division bowl game once again to help Foothill and Antioch, but some SoCal teams still move up in the final rankings because Bellarmine and Clayton Valley lost. Once more, we have doubled the number of teams ranked for the end of the season, but still wish more...

State Super 55: No. 11 to No. 20

Is Mission Viejo 2004 led by Mark Sanchez the best in Orange County history? Had Mater Dei won it all in 2016, that might not have been the case. It’s up for debate, but that’s still our choice. Others in this next group include De La Salle and Mater Dei for 1994 plus Visalia Mt....

While candidate for Game of the Years has materialized for this weekend between Centennial and St. John Bosco, we’re focused as well on other positions for this week’s rankings. The biggest shakeups took place in San Diego where previously unbeaten Mission Hills was blasted by St. Augustine. That pushed both the Saints and Loyola of...

NEW State Top 25 Football

While we’re one week closer to probable blockbuster matchup between Corona Centennial and St. John Bosco, other showdowns start this week with unbeatens Foothill of Pleasanton and Antioch hooking up. NEW State Top 25 Football

It’ll be No. 8 Bishop Amat playing No. 9 Oaks Christian in this week’s CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division quarterfinals after Oaks Christian gets three-spot bump in the rankings. This week’s only new vacancy was filled by Calabasas, mostly because the 10-1 Coyotes’ only loss is by one point to No. 19 Camarillo. Note: There...
