SoCal/NorCal Players of the Week

This feature has switched to boys and girls basketball and like we did in football we are going to do our best to spread around the honors as much as possible with one boy and one girl chosen from each region. This week’s best are from National City, Santa Barbara, Brentwood and Richmond.

NEW Bay Area 25 Football Rankings

Thanks to Contra Costa County, the Bay Area is well-represented in this week’s CIF NorCal bowl games and may have three teams going for CIF state titles in two weeks. Congrats to all teams that played in section finals last weekend in the NCS and CCS.

All-State Girls BB: By Divisions

The second segment of our 2013-14 all-state teams for girls basketball features the best for each CIF division, except that we have chosen not to do the Open Division separately. CIF Open Division champ Long Beach Poly and runner-up Salesian of Richmond both have three players on the Division I and Division IV all-state teams.

Bay Area Baseball, Softball Top 20s

Teams moving up in baseball this week include Clayton Valley, College Park, Serra and Leigh while in softball it’s Valley Christian, Carondelet and Salesian. We produce these rankings in support of the Cal-Hi Sports Bay Area TV show, which airs live on KUSI Channel 20 in San Francisco on Sunday nights.

Ms. Basketball 2014: Jordin Canada

The Windward of Los Angeles standout edges runner-up and NorCal’s top candidate, Mariya Moore, to gain state’s highest girls basketball honor. Canada joins all-time state list that goes back to 1972 and includes others such as Cheryl Miller, Lisa Leslie and Diana Taurasi.
