Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley continues phenomenal career as a distance runner and tops the state’s list for juniors. We also have honorees for sophs, frosh and for each of the five CIF enrollment divisions.
State School of the Year: Mater Dei
Serra of Gardena led with three CIF state titles, but this time Mater Dei’s overall excellence beats the Cavaliers and every other school in California. It’s the Monarchs’ fourth State School of the Year honor.

Mater Dei’s Samuelson, Miramonte’s Ionescu hear their names called in Colorado Springs and will be members of USA Under-16 national team that will play internationally this summer.
All-State Basketball: Girls Elite Squads
Unlike the boys’ first team that had eight seniors and two juniors, the girls’ team only has five seniors, with three juniors and two sophomores.

Ms. Basketball State Player of the Year Finalists
A group of six girls are in line to be selected as the 2013 honoree by Cal-Hi Sports. The Ms. Basketball State Player of the Year list now goes back to 1972 with selected players from earlier years, and includes numerous WNBA superstars.
State Stat Stars of the Week
McDonald’s All-Americans Isaac Hamilton and Kelsey Plum enjoy big outings during a big week, but the biggest news comes from Reseda’s Ahlisha Henderson, who has moved past Cheryl Miller to No. 2 on the all-time single-season state rebounding list.
New State Top 20 Girls BB Rankings
CIFSS Division I-AA playoffs features seven teams from the state top 20, which means that it won’t take long for some of them to lose, thus creating a lot of movement in the rankings. There were no changes in this week’s pecking order.
