State’s best from Area Code Games
Even with no hits in three games, Clovis shortstop Jacob Gatewood still shined the most during last week’s event in Long Beach. San Diego Cathedral Catholic pitcher Brady Aiken’s 92-mph fastball also turned the most heads.

Milwaukee Brewers hold their annual SoCal workouts as part of the selection process for the 2013 Area Code Baseball Games to be held in Long Beach August 5-10. CalHiSports.com will have wall-to-wall coverage of this prestigious event.

We ended up with five catchers, just three outfielders and plenty of the usual pitchers and multi-purpose players. These 30 represent the best of the best in California for 2013, regardless of year in school or size of school.
Mr. Baseball 2013: Jack Flaherty
He’s just a junior, but the lanky, powerful 6-foot-4 standout did plenty enough to become the first junior to gain state’s highest individual honor since Delmon Young in 2002. He led Harvard-Westlake to CIFSS title and No. 1 state ranking.
Mr. Baseball State POY Finalists
Since we count the CIF Central Section as the north, it’s four from the north and three from the south among those who could be State Player of the Year. One will be named no later than Tuesday, June 25.
Harvard-Westlake wins CIFSS title
Triumph over Marina of Huntington Beach Friday at Dodger Stadium also will give Wolverines the final No. 1 state baseball ranking. Other CIFSS winners are Cypress in D2 and Serra of Gardena in D3.
