Our first portion of the 2013-14 all-state teams for boys basketball (which marks the 36th year we’ve been doing them) highlights the best among juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Two families – the Thompsons and the Balls – should be especially happy about them.
More State Boys Players of the Year
We choose honorees for seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen and for each CIF division. Bishop O’Dowd’s Ivan Rabb actually is on top for two classifications while for the third straight year, the frosh honoree is from the San Fernando Valley.

Compared to the previous meeting of Oakland Bishop O’Dowd vs. Capital Christian of Sacramento, it was a much closer contest in Saturday’s CIF Northern California Open Division final but the Dragons still had more firepower in a 70-60 victory.
