Based on this week’s hot scorers, UC Irvine has got a dandy class coming in led by Brandon Smith & Max Hazzard. For the girls, Freedom of Oakley’s Cydnee Kinslow makes the state record book for blocking 16 shots in one game.

Betweeen Colin Slater, Ethan Richardson and Rebecca Gallis, they’re keeping CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett pretty busy these days. A huge week by All-American candidate Sabrina Ionusu of Orinda Miramonte, meanwhile, also stands out.

We already have reports of boys players this week with 56, 53 and 52-point outbursts. Some of those will have to wait until next week as more details come in but two other 50-point games from last week are included. San Diego Section standouts Destiny Littleton, Katrina Lusky and Sierra Campisano, meanwhile, lead the girls.

It’s been the joy of Christmas all season at Oceanside and the 6-foot-5 senior has his biggest week yet. We also have a 48-point outburst from Long Beach Jordan point guard. Among the girls, Dijonai Carrington has another head-turning total for rebounds while Emery’s Antuanisha Wright pours in 40 and 34 points in back-to-back outings.

Two boys players get into a shootout and both hit the 50-point mark while one of our girls honorees gets listed with a 42-point, 14-steal, 12-assist triple-double. That girl, though, San Bernardino Arroyo Valley’s Tamera Trigg, is on a team now in the hot seat for winning 161-2 earlier this week.

This feature has switched to boys and girls basketball and like we did in football we are going to do our best to spread around the honors as much as possible with one boy and one girl chosen from each region. This week’s best are from Hesperia, San Rafael, Sierra Madre and Oakley.
