Just the Picks: CIF Football Finals

As is our tradition, we go through each of the 13 upcoming CIF state football championship games and provide a predicted final score. We think a lot of NorCal teams will be successful on the road and perhaps one of the biggest underdogs is team with six state titles in the last seven years.

Football: NCS Open Division On Board

The section’s league reps vote 44-3 to add four-team Open Division in football starting this fall. Of course, thoughts turn immediately to NCS super power De La Salle, which has won every NCS D1 title since 1991 and has won six CIF state titles in the highest classification in the last seven years.

Saturday Bowls: DLS Back-To-Back

After CIF state bowl wins by Narbonne in D1A and Central Catholic in Small Schools Open Division, De La Salle of Concord beats Centennial of Corona 28-21 to win its sixth CIF state title in seven years, second in a row and denies Huskies a shot at one mythical national title.

Friday Bowls: Devilish Diablos

Mission Viejo takes CIF Division IAA crown with 24-0 victory over Bellarmine of San Jose while Del Oro of Loomis wins the CIF D2AA title by downing Camarillo 16-6. Diablos end 16-0 while the Golden Eagles prevented the Scorpions from doing the same.

Folsom four-peat in SJS

In a matchup of state’s No. 4 and No. 6 teams in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship, Folsom tops Elk Grove 35-27 and now sets sights on second consecutive state title, which this year will be in new D1AA bracket.
