Baseball, Softball Final State Top 20s

Following State Teams of the Year College Park of Pleasant Hill and Yucaipa, baseball’s highest risers at the end include Rancho Bernardo, JSerra, San Ysidro and Redondo. For softball, it’s Norco, Santiago of Corona, East Union and La Serna.

Yucaipa State Softball Team of Year

Season-long leader Mission Viejo has to slide to No. 2 behind the Thunderbirds in the final state rankings after losing to them 1-0 in the CIF Southern Section Division II championship. It’s the fifth time in six years that an Inland Empire team collects State Team of the Year honor.

More Softball State Teams of Year

In addition to overall No. 1 and Division II No. 1 Yucaipa, others that can say they are mythical state champions for 2015 are Amador Valley of Pleasanton (Division I), East Union of Manteca (D3), Paraclete of Lancaster (D4) and Riverdale (D5).

Yucaipa softball tops Mission Viejo

There will be no second straight State Team of the Year and no second straight mythical national title for the Diablos after they lose 1-0 in CIF Southern Section Division II final. Thunderbirds avenged two earlier losses, but win game that means the most.

Yucaipa mucks up greatest team ranks

Friday night’s stunning 1-0 loss by Mission Viejo to Yucaipa prevented a 31-0 season and will allow the Thunderbirds and not the Diablos to end No. 1 in the state. Still, we thought we’d get started on a project to compile all-time rankings of the greatest softball teams in California history.

Softball Updates: CIFSS & NCS

Friday night’s CIF Southern Section Division II championship was set up nicely in Tuesday’s semifinals as both state No. 1 Mission Viejo and state No. 2 Yucaipa were victorious.

NorCal/SoCal Players of the Week

This is our final set of honorees for the 2014-15 school year and all four were major contributors last week toward teams that won section titles. They are from Elk Grove, Woodland Hills, Hollister and San Diego.
