With No. 2 Centennial and No. 3 St. John Bosco having already played on Thursday night, No. 1 De La Salle kept pace on Friday. Biggest Friday night house of horrors were experienced by No. 6 Mater Dei falling to bubble team JSerra and No. 19 Westlake going down to St. Bonaventure.

Week 8 State Top 25 Scoreboard

With the state’s big three continuing to distance themselves from all others, the most significant results came in from Mission Viejo and Mountain View. That’s where No. 8 Mission Viejo clobbered No. 21 San Juan Hills and where No. 24 St. Francis was edged by its rivals from Bellarmine.

More State Boys Athletes of Year

Among others earning top state honors are Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta (juniors), Matt Katnik of St. John Bosco (Division II) and Sam Metcalf of Farmersville (Division V). Brandon Presley from Great Oak of Temecula also is second-ever State Three-Sport Athlete of the Year.
