Pacifica of Garden Grove leads the pack with not one not two but three pitchers headed to major colleges. Defending State Team of the Year Norco, however, may have the best offensive lineup. A new coach, meanwhile, will lead top-ranked preseason team in Northern California.

Preseason Baseball State Top 20

This time, it’s Cathedral Catholic at No. 1 with Vista at No. 2 in a reversal of where the teams finished in 2012 final rankings. It should be another sizzling season in the best state for high school baseball by far.

New State Top 20 Girls BB Rankings

No. 3 Bishop O’Dowd shows there’s quite a gap between itself and No. 4 St. Mary’s of Stockton among the best in California high school girls basketball, although the impressive win doesn’t change this week’s rankings. Etiwanda moves into the top 10 while the lone newcomer is Serra of Gardena.

New State Top 20 Boys BB Rankings

There’s not much movement this week, but expect that to change in the next two weeks as section playoffs tip off around the state. Red-hot Windward of Los Angeles and Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove are this week’s newcomers. Rancho Cucamonga win over Etiwanda also creates rankings and playoff ramifications.

What we learned at the 2013 Nike Extravaganza

Seven boys teams ranked in the Cal-Hi Sports state top 20 were in action this weekend at Mater Dei’s two-day event. The event’s results will impact this week’s state rankings. Beyond that, there are a few other things we learned about California’s high school boys basketball scene.
