With huge tourneys right around the corner, there are few changes in this week’s rankings. Vintage of Napa stays among elite after winning eight games in four days. Preseason No. 1 Pacifica, meanwhile, falls out after Monday loss.
New State Baseball Top 20
Mater Dei heads to NHSI tourney in North Carolina with new No. 1 state ranking. St. Francis of Mountain View falls to fifth after hard-to-believe 10-9 loss to Serra of San Mateo. Highest rising newcomers are St. Augustine of San Diego (another CIF state hoops champ) and Agoura of Agoura Hills.
New State Softball Top 20
Amador Valley is a little light on offense, but doesn’t give up a run in winning the Queen of the Mountain tournament to remain the state’s top-ranked team. Highest-rising newcomers this week are California of San Ramon and Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga.
New Baseball State Top 20
St. Francis of Mountain View wins on Tuesday and moves to No. 1 in place of Cathedral Catholic, which is no longer ranked No. 1 in the CIF San Diego Section. This week’s highest rising newcomer is another San Diego team.
New State Top 20 Girls BB Rankings
Similar to the boys, the big game in the CIF’s new open division won’t be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 game, but it still has the potential to be a dynamite matchup. There is movement, but no newcomers in the next-to-last state top 20 rankings.
New State Top 20 Boys BB Rankings
The big game in the CIF’s new open division won’t be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup, but the winner will assuredly be the Cal-Hi Sports State Team of the Year. Mitty’s big win over Sheldon is also good news for Serra of San Mateo, one of four newcomers in the next-to-last state rankings.
New State Softball Top 20
Due to section rules, some NorCal teams are just getting started while many top SoCal teams already have played in perhaps the strongest tournament in the nation. Highest-rising newcomers this week are Huntington Beach Marina and Riverside Poly.
New Baseball State Top 20
Capistrano Valley, Fountain Valley and Buchanan (all unbeaten) make strong debuts as newcomers in this week’s rankings. Cathedral Catholic, Harvard-Westlake and St. Francis of Mountain View also are still unbeaten and ranked No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.
