More State Boys Athletes of Year
Among those earning top state honors are Joe DeMers of College Park, Sean McGrew of St. John Bosco, Drew Anderson from Miramonte of Orinda and Nifae Lealao of Capital Christian. Anderson also gains first-ever State Three-Sport Athlete of the Year selection.
Bakersfield & 1916 CIF title
The CIF says it will count the Drillers’ football championship they were awarded way back in 1916 at a CIF Federated Council meeting, but we at Cal-Hi Sports will not in our record book because that title was not won on the field.
More State Schools of the Year
Archbishop Mitty and Torrey Pines continue back-and-forth duel in girls sports with Mitty getting the nod this time. Other schools ending with special honors include St. John Bosco (D2), Chaminade (D3), Central Catholic of Modesto (D4) and St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda (D5). Fifteen more schools also gain special mention for overall athletic excellence.

Saturday Girls CIF State Finals
Long Beach Poly beats Salesian in Open Division and will be No. 1 in the state. Chaminade adds another title in Division II championship, its third of the school year. Sierra Canyon also wins one for the San Fernando Valley in Division IV.
Friday CIF Boys Finals
Monte Vista bombards Centennial with 3-pointers early and wins Division I championship of first-time finalists. Chaminade tops Drake for first crown in Division III while St. Joseph Notre Dame becomes first NorCal school to reach five state titles with win in Division V final.
