How about a CIF Open Division doubleheader?
Since this year we are not getting CIF Open Division regional bowl games for football but seems we are angling toward a new system in which “everybody gets a trophy,” we thought it would be effective to point out what the matchups would have been in the last 10 years if the CIF were to […]
It turned quickly in Servite loss to DLS
State No. 2 ranked De La Salle beats No. 4 Servite 47-24 on its home field on Saturday night. Until the game reached the middle of the third quarter, however, it was still anybody’s to win.

State Athlete of Year: Nick Nevills
It’s a close call between the three-time CIF heavyweight wrestling champ (who also starred in football) and the electrifying Adoree’ Jackson of Gardena Serra (for football and track), but unfortunately for Jackson we’ll never know how he would have done at his final CIF state track meet.
More State Boys Athletes of Year
Among those earning top state honors are Joe DeMers of College Park, Sean McGrew of St. John Bosco, Drew Anderson from Miramonte of Orinda and Nifae Lealao of Capital Christian. Anderson also gains first-ever State Three-Sport Athlete of the Year selection.
Bakersfield & 1916 CIF title
The CIF says it will count the Drillers’ football championship they were awarded way back in 1916 at a CIF Federated Council meeting, but we at Cal-Hi Sports will not in our record book because that title was not won on the field.
More State Schools of the Year
Archbishop Mitty and Torrey Pines continue back-and-forth duel in girls sports with Mitty getting the nod this time. Other schools ending with special honors include St. John Bosco (D2), Chaminade (D3), Central Catholic of Modesto (D4) and St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda (D5). Fifteen more schools also gain special mention for overall athletic excellence.
Three Sports, One Day
Thanks to the schedule makers of the CIF North Coast Section and the CIF state office, it was indeed possible to see the Amador Valley softball team finish off a perfect season, then the College Park baseball team win a mythical state title and then two neighborhood rivals meet for the CIF NorCal D1 boys […]
