The highest ranked teams to lose in section playoff openers were No. 14 Napa and No. 17 Roseville, but you can’t call either loss an upset. The only newcomer is Inderkum of Sacramento, which is playing No. 3 Sacramento in a Division II quarterfinal.

FB: Top 10 Rankings Update
Freedom of Oakley has done enough to jump up into the same No. 10 position that was occupied last week by Monte Vista of Danville. The Falcons (10-0) also are the No. 2 seed behind De La Salle in CIF North Coast Section Open Division.

FB: Sac-Joaquin Section Top 25 (9)
The SJS D1 playoff seedings went with Folsom at No. 1, but generally we don’t switch rankings to agree and still have St. Mary’s of Stockton at No. 1. The big mover as the regular season ends is Antelope, which is seeded third in the D2 playoffs behind only Sacramento and Del Oro and benefits from Oakdale’s big win over Central Catholic.

With no problems at the top of the order and teams setting up showdown games for league titles, there was plenty of difficulty toward the bottom. Three new teams broke into the first 25 with two of them – Cosumnes Oaks and Tracy – going in for the first time all season.
