All-State Boys BB Nominees (Part 2)

This is a new, updated list of players who are nominees for the 2013 all-state basketball teams. The 34th annual Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams for boys basketball will be announced soon so please send in any last-second comments, nominations by the end of the upcoming weekend.

Mike Haupt: State Coach of the Year

St. Augustine of San Diego boys hoops coach is first in 10 years and San Diego County’s third since 1969 to earn the honor from Cal-Hi Sports. Four other coaches honored in each CIF division.

Mr. Basketball 2013: Aaron Gordon

State’s top honor goes to Archbishop Mitty of San Jose standout for the second consecutive year by a whisker over Mater Dei’s Stanley Johnson. Gordon is only the sixth two-time winner since 1956.

We choose honorees for juniors, sophomores and freshmen and for each CIF division. The toughest picks were for Division V and freshmen. Check back later this week for the Cal-Hi Sports state coaches of the year.

McDonald’s 2013: Gordon Shines, Girls Quartet Contributes

Mitty’s Aaron Gordon caps a spectacular week by winning MVP honors at the 2013 McDonald’s All-American Game in Chicago. In the girls game, California quartet contributes 19 points and 22 rebounds to West’s victory.

Mr. Basketball State Player of Year Finalists

A group of six boys are in line to be selected as the 2013 honoree by Cal-Hi Sports. The Mr. Basketball State Player of the Year list now goes back almost 100 years and includes numerous NBA superstars.
