SoCal Open Girls: Poly prevails

Etiwanda was facing a juggernaut used to being in position to compete for a state title in Saturday’s CIF Southern California Open Division final at Citizen’s Bank Arena in Ontario, but it was not intimidated and was within striking distance to perhaps pull off a second consecutive upset.

SoCal Boys BB Regional Finals

Big winners are Mater Dei, Corona Centennial, St. John Bosco, Chaminade, Bishop Mongtomery and Renaissance. Buzzer beaters are the difference for Chaminade and Renaissance. For Mater Dei, it’s just another win in a close game. Look for our CIF state finals’ predictions on Monday.

SoCal Open Boys: MD four-peats

In its last two games, the boys basketball team at Mater Dei of SantaAna has been on the brink of defeat. A loss wouldn’t just end an otherwise successful season, it would be an end to a historic run to a fourth consecutive CIF state title at the highest level.

Forward Daniel Hamilton of Bellflower St. John Bosco selected to Jordan Brand Classic to be played in New York April 18. Hamilton will join Mr. Basketball front-runner Stanley Johnson of Santa Ana Mater Dei and former Monarchs player Shaqquan Aaron at the prestigious event.

Village Christian of Sun Valley wins boys CIFSS Div. 4-A title with victory over Windward of Los Angeles. The Crusaders enter the regional playoffs on a 10-game winning streak since a loss to state No. 1 Mater Dei and is a viable contender for the Division IV state title.
