NEW BASEBALL STATE
TOP 20 OVERALL RANKINGS
With wins last week over league rivals Bellarmine and Valley Christian, St. Francis of Mountain View has taken over the top position in the state in this week’s new rankings.
Previous No. 1 Harvard-Westlake, which edged St. Francis to earn the final No. 1 ranking last season, fell twice at the Horizon National Invitational Tournament in Arizona. A matchup between the Lancers and a top Southern California opponent could take place in the finals of this year’s Boras Baseball Classic (starting this week in Southern California).
There were several Tuesday results that impacted this week’s state rankings and that is why these state rankings do not match the FAB 50 national rankings, which also were released Wednesday. This includes JSerra of San Juan Capistrano losing to Vista Murrieta, Archbishop Mitty losing to Valley Christian and Clovis North defeating Clovis West. Note that any results from Wednesday or later this week are not accounted for yet.

NEW SOFTBALL STATE
TOP 20 OVERALL RANKINGS
As these rankings were being completed on Wednesday, play was already underway in the annual Michelle Carew Classic, especially with a matchup between state-ranked Chino Hills and Vista Murrieta. None of those scores are accounted for in this week’s rankings.
Results from Tuesday games were included, the most significant of which was Marina of Huntington Beach losing to La Mirada and causing the Vikings to fall a few positions.
If the top-ranked teams get to the final of the Carew Classic (which usually doesn’t happen in elite tourneys such as this one), it would be a matchup between No. 2 Amador Valley and No. 4 Pacifica.

What’s the reasoning behind Clovis West dropping 4 spots & having 6 teams pass them after a 2-0 loss to a Clovis North team that’s ranked in the top 10? They also have won three of four including a win over the 5th ranked team? Those four Clovis schools are going to lose games but that’s what happens when you’re in probably the deepest league in the state.
This is California and there are a lot of great teams and great leagues. Just not much difference between teams going up five or six spots in one week and dropping a few spots. I agree that TRAC is probably deepest league in the state, but not by that much of a margin. WCAL in Bay Area is still loaded so is Mission League in SoCal (Harvard-Westlake, Loyola, others). It’s not like the TRAC is so much stronger that it has to have four top 10 teams or even four top 20 teams. And don’t forget about Frontier of Bakersfield in the section, either. We’ll be checking that team for next week for sure.
