Every week this football season, Cal-Hi Sports and Time Warner Cable’s Varsity Roundup will join forces to present the Northern California and Southern California Player of the Week.
The two weekly honorees will be featured on Varsity Roundup, which airs on Wednesday nights on Time Warner Cable systems throughout the state. Check your TV for broadcast schedules. Time Warner Cable is the home of the CIF state championships.
Here are the five finalists from Northern California for this week, based on games played from Thursday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 14:
Jalen Jones (Terra Nova, Pacifica) WR/KR Sr.
Michael Lazarus (Berkeley) LB Sr.
Jake Pruitt (Sierra, Manteca) QB Sr.
Jerek Rosales (De La Salle, Concord) DB Sr.
Harris Ross (Pittsburg) RB Sr.
Here are the five finalists from Southern California for this week, based on games played from Thursday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 14:
Deven Boston (Buena Park) RB Sr.
Austin Cardoza (Exeter) RB Sr.
Will Freed (San Marcos) QB Jr.
Coltin Gerhart (Vista Murrieta, Murrieta) QB/RB Sr.
Brad Kaaya (Chaminade, West Hills) QB Sr.
Notes: Once an athlete has been chosen as a NorCal or SoCal Player of the Week, they can’t be chosen again unless there are extreme circumstances. Previous honorees have been Jake Browning (Folsom) and Trevor Bearden (Live Oak, Morgan Hill) from the north. From the south, it’s been Brandon Dawkins (Oaks Christian) and Tre’ Watson (Centennial, Corona). Players can be a finalist multiple times, however. In addition to the Varsity Roundup show, winners will be featured at the top of the State Stat Stars of the Week feature to be posted on CalHiSports.com on Thursday and all finalists will be written up within that feature as well.
We are honored at Cal-Hi Sports to be helping this year with Time Warner Cable’s Varsity Roundup show.
