It’s been a couple of weeks since we were able to do these rankings due to travels in Europe, but we’re back and will be ranking teams now for the rest of 2024 season. There were changes for medium schools based on teams that had to go up into the overall State TOP 50, but Newbury Park, Oak Hills and Los Gatos remain 1-2-3. For small schools, Hughson is now No. 3 after dramatic 52-51 win over previous No. 3 Sonora just last week. Bradshaw Christian and Carmel, however, remain solid in top two. Newcomers are El Modena of Orange (medium), Santa Fe Christian (small) and Salesian of Richmond (small).

(All based on section by section playoff formats, updated computer rankings, plus combination of enrollment and traditional placement into state rankings that we have done for 45 plus years)

(There also will be final five divisional state rankings done after the season so that we continue to have an archive of them going back to the early 1980s)

(Once CIF section playoffs are underway, we will switch this feature to our CIF state bowl game projections and then when the season is over there will be final medium school/small school rankings)

MEDIUM SCHOOLS TOP 15

(After games of Saturday, Oct. 12)
(Previous rank in parentheses)

1. (1) Newbury Park 7-0
Once the Panthers got past Santa Barbara a couple of weeks ago, their odds of going 10-0 for the regular season went way up. They are now up to No. 23 overall in our rankings. If the CIF Southern Section went to a 12-team bracket for its top D1 playoffs, there is now a chance that Newbury Park could go up that high. That’s obviously not something anyone in Ventura County is hoping to see since that means it’s the same top bracket as Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.
