Medium/Small Schools State FB Ranks

It was considered to move up Oak Hills past Newbury Park in medium, but dropping a No. 1 team is just something we never do. Los Gatos moves up to No. 3 and El Cerrito jumps from No. 8 to No. 4. Beaumont and San Jacinto also are medium schools newcomers. For small schools, the top nine teams from last week did not change, led by No. 1 Bradshaw Christian. The lone newcomer, Hilmar, also is from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section.

Note: This is a post for our Gold Club members only on CalHiSports.com. Rankings that are free are preseason or the first ones of a particular breakdown. NOTE: This feature will not run for the next two weeks as we will be on a trip to Europe. It will return later in the week of Oct. 16-18. Other content will be running in its place.

(All based on section by section playoff formats, updated computer rankings, plus combination of enrollment and traditional placement into state rankings that we have done for 45 plus years)

(There also will be final five divisional state rankings done after the season so that we continue to have an archive of them going back to the early 1980s)

(Once CIF section playoffs are underway, we will switch this feature to our CIF state bowl game projections and then when the season is over there will be final medium school/small school rankings)

MEDIUM SCHOOLS TOP 15

(After games of Saturday, Sept. 21)
(Previous rank in parentheses)

1. (1) Newbury Park 4-0
After their bye week, the Panthers still have a non-league game to play this week vs Ventura and then will play Conejo Coast League opponents for five straight weeks. They are the only unbeaten team in that league after Santa Barbara had a tie last week. Brady Smigiel has passed for 962 yards and 16 TDs and Shane Rosenthal has five interceptions on defense.
