1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 7-1
Head coach Frank McManus talked about the Monarchs beginning to get over their poor night in a 28-0 loss to No. 2 St. John Bosco by flushing out the toxins in their bodies. But it became quickly obvious that a different kind of “flush” also will be needed. It was the first shutout the team has suffered since 2011 and it’s the worst loss to Bosco since 2015 (which was the last year neither one of them won the top divisional title in the CIF Southern Section.

2. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 7-1
Another storyline about how much the Braves shockingly dominated Mater Dei wasn’t just the score. The defense didn’t even let the Monarchs inside the red zone until the last possession with back ups. And there was another trick play that Bosco tried in the first half that didn’t work when a wide open receiver was overthrown and another dropped pass on a likely big chunk play that might have helped an additional drive in the first half in a score. Cameron Jones rushed for a 1-yard run and caught a 17-yard TD pass from Caleb Sanchez to get the party started. The third TD came in the third period on a double pass in which the second throw from Stacy Dobbins to Tommy Maher wetn for a 25-yard score.

4. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 8-0
Defeated Alemany of Mission Hills, 48-0. It was 34-0 at halftime for the Trailblazers, who still have Serra (Gardena) to face for Mission League title. Dane Dunn rushed for 256 yards and two TDs.

5. Serra (San Mateo) 7-0
Defeated Bellarmine (San Jose), 54-16, on Saturday. It was another rather easy home win for the Padres, who can just about clinch the West Catholic Athletic League title next Saturday at home vs Archbishop Riordan.

6. Lincoln (San Diego) 9-0
Defeated St. Augustine (San Diego), 42-7, on Saturday. The Hornets also pushed their win streak to 21 games, which is the longest current streak in the state.

7. Carlsbad 8-0
The Lancers were on upset alert at halftime, as they found themselves down 7-0 at the break to Torrey Pines of San Diego (5-2). Carlsbad came back with 17 unanswered points to escape with a 17-7 victory.

8. Clovis North (Fresno) 8-0
Andrew Chavez found the end zone with 4:14 remaining in the fourth quarter to put Clovis North up 34-21 over Clovis West. The Broncos still had to hang on for a nail-biting 34-27 victory over preseason Tri-River Athletic Conference favorites Clovis West. Buchanan up next for the Broncos.

9. JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 4-4
LOST on Friday to No. 20 Santa Margarita, 34-31. This was a back-and-forth affair in the Trinity League similar to JSerra vs Orange Lutheran, but this time the Eagles won. It could be another three-way tie for second in the Trinity League this season since JSerra has win over OLu, OLu has win over Santa Marg and now Santa Marg has won over OLu.

10. Lutheran (Orange) 5-3
Defeated No. 24 Servite of Anaheim 36-33. Steve Chavez scored on a 4-yard run with about three minutes left and then a two-point conversion gave the Lancers the lead. Servite had a TD pass with about one minute left that was called back on a penalty.

11. De La Salle (Concord) 5-2
De La Salle’s North Coast Section unbeaten streak and its state record league winning streak lives another week (and probably another year), as Derrick Blanche ran in a ball from six yards out in overtime to power the Spartans to a 33-27 victory over No. 18 San Ramon Valley (Danville). De La Salle has a 265-0-1 unbeaten streak since 1991 vs NCS teams and its a 109-game league win streak (since 1989 but close to 20 years in whcih the team was independent).

12. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 7-1
Defeated Cabrillo of Long Beach, 50-6, on Thursday evening. The players from Cabrillo were super-excited to avoid the shutout since that hadn’t happened since 2015.

13. Rancho Cucamonga 8-0
Defeated Chino Hills, 49-0, this week on Friday. The Cougars did their part to set up next week’s clash with unbeaten No. 35 Damien for the Baseline League title. A win for Rancho also would seem to ensure the team will up in D1 for the CIFSS playoffs.

14. Folsom 6-2
The team cruised past Whitney (Rocklin) 63-19 on Friday evening in Sierra Foothill League action. Logan Hutton scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 80 yards for the score to put the Bulldogs up 28-0 at the end of the first quarter. Star sophomore quarterback Ryder Lyons also had five passing touchdowns.

15. Mission Viejo 5-3
LOST TO No. 28 San Clemente, 20-10, on Friday. The Diablos scored on a 35-yard field goal by Michael Salgado-Medina and on a 6-yard run by Hinesward Lilomaiava.

16. Helix (La Mesa) 8-0
Defeated Santana (Santee) 58-0 in a Thursday night game. The warmups in the Grossmont Hills League are over. Next week it will the Highlanders matching up with No. 19 Granite Hills.

17. Serra (Gardena) 6-2
Defeated Bishop Amat of La Puente, 48-28, on Friday. Jimmy Butler led the Cavs with three TD passes and 219 yards. Cincere Rhaney also rushed for more than 200 yards, 3 TDs.

18. San Ramon Valley (Danville) 6-1
With 9.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, San Ramon Valley found itself just one 36-yard kick from Austin Shelton away from toppling No. 11 De La Salle’s (Concord) 30-plus year stranglehold of the North Coast Section. The kick would go wide left after potentially being tipped by De La Salle’s Jaden Jefferson and Spartans’ running back Derrick Blanche then punched in a score from six yards out in overtime to hold off the Wolves 33-27.

19. Granite Hills (El Cajon) 8-0
The Eagles breezed past Steele Canyon 45-7 on Friday. It was no trap game for Granite Bay, as the victory will now set up the showdown next week between fellow unbeaten side No. 16 Helix (La Mesa).

20. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 4-3
Defeated No. 10 JSerra, 34-31, on Friday. Ryan Gass had his first career field goal earlier and later kicked a 25-yard FG as time expired for the win. Super soph Trent Mosley ran for two TDs and caught two TD passes.

21. Liberty (Bakersfield) 7-1
Defeated Centennial (Bakersfield), 30-7, on Thursday night. Centennial didn’t score against the Patriots’ defense until the middle of the fourth quarter and by then it was 30-0.

22. Pittsburg 7-0
Marley Alcantara passed for four TDs as the Pirates routed Freedom of Oakley, 54-0, on Friday.

23. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 7-1
Tracy held tough with the Rams from Stockton for one quarter, but St. Mary’s broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter with 35 unanswered points over the next two quarters en route to a 42-14 blowout victory for the Rams. Samson Hunkin had five total touchdowns for St. Mary’s.

24. Servite (Anaheim) 4-4
LOST to No. 10 Orange Lutheran, 36-33, on Friday. If the Friars can keep playing well, like they did in this near-upset, they have a good chance to come through in their final two Trinity League games against Santa Margarita and JSerra.

25. Los Alamitos 6-2
Defeated Corona del Mar (Newport Beach), 69-14. Considering the opponent (which has been inside the top 50 of the state this season), this may be the Griffins’ most impressive outing.

TEAMS ON THE BUBBLE

Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) 6-1
The Crusaders played on Saturday at home this week and were in a shootout with Archbishop Mitty of San Jose. It was 35-35 at halftime, but Riordan was a bit stronger in the second half and secured a 56-42 win. Up next will be two-time NorCal Open Division representative Serra (San Mateo) next Saturday on the road.

Central Catholic (Modesto) 6-2
The Raiders only took a three-point lead into the halftime break against Oakdale, but Clemson baseball commit Tyler Wentworth helped power the Raiders to a 64-39 victory over the Mustangs down at the Corral. The senior quarterback was initially reported 16-for-23 while throwing for 334 yards and four touchdowns.

Clovis East (Clovis) 6-2
Tyus Miller completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Wilson with less than a minute remaining to pull within three points of Central (Fresno), but the Grizzlies of Central walked away with a wild-and-wacky 58-55 upset victory over the Timberwolves. .

Damien (La Verne) 8-0
Does not play this week with a bye. The Spartans next will take on Rancho Cucamonga the upcoming week in a matchup that should generate a lot of attention in Southern California.

Edison (Huntington Beach) 5-3
In a Thursday contest, the Chargers hung on to beat Newport Harbor (Newport Beach) by 31-28.

Grant (Sacramento) 7-1
Defeated Kennedy (Sacramento) on Friday but score not reported. It came in Saturday: 82-0. The Pacers apparently were trying to match an 82-point total from the week before by area rival Inderkum. Devin Green (transfer from Sacramento Sheldon) gained eligibility, played for the first time and scored four touchdowns.

Millikan (Long Beach) 6-3
Team that recently went OT in a loss to Long Beach Poly rolled over Compton on Friday, 56-7. USC-bound Ryan Pellum scored four TDs.

Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 6-2
The Nighthawks were upended on Friday night 36-35 by Chaparral (Temecula), as Dash Beierly found Jacob Alvarez on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds remaining to move within one. Beierly then completed a pass for the two-point-conversion to secure the victory for previous top 50 ranked Pumas.

Oak Hills (Hesperia) 7-1
Defeated Apple Valley, 42-21, on Friday. This just about wraps up another Mojave River League title for the Bulldogs.

Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 7-1
A surging Granite Bay side was held scoreless in the second half, as Oak Ridge came from behind in the second half to pull off a 25-14 victory over the Grizzlies. The Trojans scored 25 unanswered points after Granite Bay jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead.

Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 6-2
There were no issues for Oaks Christian against rivals Westlake (Westlake Village) on Friday, as the Lions cruised to a 45-14 blowout victory. Noah LaBerge had the first points on a 33-yard field goal and Oaks Christian never trailed.

Palos Verdes (PV Estates) 8-0
Defeated Redondo (Redondo Beach), 42-0. Freshman Ryan Rakowski passed for two TDs and an ran for one to lead the Sea Kings. Eric Mulkey also rushed for three scores.

Pacifica (Oxnard) 8-0
Does not play this week with a bye. The Tritons have been rolling in the Channel League and have their win over St. Bonaventure. They play Rio Mesa (Oxnard) next week.

Rocklin 7-1
This team took a 14-0 advantage into the halftime break against Del Oro and the Thunder closed out the Golden Eagles 35-14. Derek Keeley ended a drive with a three-yard score to put the game out of reach 28-7 early in the fourth quarter.

San Clemente 7-1
Defeated No. 15 Mission Viejo, 20-10. The winner of this game almost always goes on to win the South Coast League title. A pick-six by Max Gonzales in the final minutes iced the victory. Aiden Rubin also rushed for 239 yards on 28 carries (1 TD).

St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 6-2
Defeated Simi Valley 29-24 on Thursday. This was an upset scare for the Seraphs, who had to turn back the Pioneers twice in the fourth quarter to avoid going behind. A fourth down that was stopped ended the game.

Upland 6-2
After three quarters on Friday evening against Etiwanda, Upland was behind by eight points and had been shutout in the third quarter. The Highlanders then responded, however, with 21 unanswered points to secure the 42-28 victory over the Eagles.

Valencia 7-1
Does not play this week with a bye. The Vikings, who have lost only to Rancho Cucamonga, come off of their bye next week to face Hart (Newhall).

Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 6-2
LOST to No. 3 Centennial (Corona) 62-14 on Thursday. Sophomore Bryson Beaver threw a pair of TD passes to lead the Broncos.

Warren (Downey) 6-2
A great catch in the end zone by Jordan Ross (seen on local TV) gave the Bears the winning touchdown in their 28-21 win over Downey on Friday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. In the first-ever high school game ever played at SoFi, a sellout crowd of 18,000 attended between the two longtime rivals. Warren has one loss to Serra (Gardena), another to an out-of-state foe and a win over La Serna (Whittier).
