Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five linebackers in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history (based on NFL position), according to CalHiSports.com.
This is the sixth season that CalHiSports.com and FOX 40 have partnered together to have these SJS Top 5 lists as part of the station’s weekly high school football highlights show. Tune in on Fridays at 10:30 for the Game of the Week, top four plays and more. The top 5 list from last week’s show is later revealed on our site. For the top 5 list for this week, it will actually be the top six schools in section history with the most CIF state title game appearances. Check out the show to see those schools revealed.
TOP 5 LINEBACKERS IN SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION HISTORY
5. Rob Swenson (Tracy)
He was part of the famed Orange Crush defense with the Denver Broncos in 1980s and was all-pro once.
4. Shaq Thompson (Grant, Sacramento)
He has almost 500 tackles since he’s been with the Carolina Panthers since 2015 and is one of the top all-around players in section history.
3. Desmond Bishop (Fairfield)
An eight-year pro mostly with the Packers and started in one Super Bowl, Desmond has helped coach at Edison (Stockton).
2. Tedy Bruschi (Roseville)
Here the big debate: Tedy or Lance. Bruschi had more than 1,000 career tackles for the Patriots and earned three Super Bowl rings.
1. Lance Briggs (Elk Grove)
The seven-time Pro Bowler for the Chicago Bears (now retired) is still regarded as one of the best high school players in section history who scored six TDs as a running back in a section final.
Thanks to Jim and the FOX 40 team for letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
