With just two weeks to go for the vast majority of teams in the state for this very different spring season, we’ll treat Friday and Saturday nights like we do for the fall with the compilation of a weekend scoreboard involving the state’s top-ranked teams. Two expected showdowns on Friday fizzled for different reasons, then on Saturday No. 1 St. John Bosco and No. 3 De La Salle won easily. Bosco will now play No. 2 Mater Dei next week. Saturday also saw No. 10 Alemany fall to team that will be joining the top 25 of the next State TOP 50.

We’ll have insights and breakdowns based on more than 40 years of going to Friday night games with an overview of the state’s top teams and what’s coming up that just can’t be matched. 1. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 5-0
Defeated Lutheran (Orange) 55-0 on Saturday. Head coach Jason Negro’s squad led 45-0 at halftime with one of the highlights being Peyton Woodyard’s 75-yard punt return TD on his mother’s birthday.
2. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 5-0
Defeated No. 18 Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 49-13. Junior RB Raleek Brown, the Oklahoma commit, scored a pair of TDs on flashy runs, and frosh QB Elijah Brown had four TD passes. Monarchs get No. 1 Bosco next.
3. De La Salle (Concord) 5-0
Defeated California (San Ramon) 48-10. Spartans will end their spring season next week against Clayton Valley (Concord).
4. Servite (Anaheim) 3-2
Defeated JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 52-0. The Friars’ losses were by 24-17 to Mater Dei and 38-28 to St. John Bosco.

5. Mission Viejo 4-0
Defeated San Juan Hills (SJ Capistrano) 49-14. Soph QB Kadin Semonza was like a maestro, going 20 of 23 for 329 yds, 5 TDs.
6. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 4-1
Defeated Upland 37-0. Since their opening loss to Bosco, Trailblazers now have four straight shutouts and have outscored opponents 177-0.
7. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 4-0
Defeated No. 17 Lincoln (San Diego) 41-0. Lucky Sutton ran for two TDs, but the real back-breaker for Lincoln may have been Christian Hall’s TD run in the third quarter that broke the game open.
8. Folsom 5-0
Defeated Lincoln 41-14. It was supposed to be No. 18 Rocklin in a showdown, but there were COVID testing issues for Rocklin. Lincoln of Lincoln stepped up to play the Bulldogs in the last hours and showed a lot of grit in taking on the bigger school.
9. Serra (San Mateo) 4-0
Defeated Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) 26-3 on Saturday. Padres are solid favorites to finish spring with perfect record.
10. Alemany (Mission Hills) 3-1
LOST to Chaminade (West Hills) 34-27 on Saturday. The Warriors fought back from an early 20-0 hole, scored with just over two minutes left to make it a one score game, then recovered an onside kick, but then got stopped on downs.
11. Pittsburg 4-0
Defeated Deer Valley (Antioch) 67-8 on Saturday. Jaden Rashada and Eli Brickhandler combined to throw for seven TDs.
12. Los Alamitos 5-0
Defeated Fountain Valley 62-9 on Thursday. It’s the second straight week the Griffins have surpassed 60 pts.
13. Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 4-0
Defeated San Leandro 48-12. We saw reports that the Mustangs were going to play St. Mary’s of Stockton, but that one had to change so instead they faced the Pirates of the East Bay and posted another impressive win.
14. San Clemente 4-0
Defeated Tesoro (Las Flores) 35-17. Tritons will take on No. 5 Mission Viejo next Friday for the South Coast League title.
15. Norco 4-0
Defeated M.L. King (Riverside) 42-0 on Thursday night. One more win will officially end Centennial’s 14-year reign in the Big VIII League.
16. Centennial (Corona) 3-1
Defeated Roosevelt (Eastvale) 66-6 on Thursday night. Loss was 38-36 in previous game to Norco.
17. Lincoln (San Diego) 3-1
LOST to No. 8 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 4-0. It was a dominating win by the Dons. The Hornets can still salvage a lot of pride with a scheduled game next week vs. St. Augustine.
18. Rocklin 3-0
Did not play. While the Thunder couldn’t play No. 8 Folsom on Friday due to a COVID lab test issue, it was later reported they may be okayed for a Saturday game against No. 20 St. Mary’s (Stockton) but that game couldn’t happen, either.
19. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 2-1
LOST to Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 49-13. Colt Fulton had two TD passes for the Eagles.
20. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 3-1
Did not play. We didn’t expect the Rams would play West of Tracy this week and it was then thought they would play No. 13 Monterey Trail. Head coach Tony Franks announced on Friday that game couldn’t be played and then later on Friday it was reported that barring any other testing issues that the Rams would play No. 18 Rocklin on Saturday. Such is life, though, as that game couldn’t be played, either.
21. Buchanan (Clovis) 4-0
Defeated Clovis North (Fresno) 51-3. This win came on the heels of the two big wins over Central (Fresno) and Clovis.
22. Central (Fresno) 3-1
Defeated Clovis West (Fresno) 38-13. Their loss was 31-28 two weeks ago to Buchanan.
23. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 3-0
Did not play. Head coach Stephen Barbee was still looking for a possible team to play as of Friday after the Jackrabbits’ scheduled game vs. Long Beach Jordan was called off.
24. La Habra 5-0
Defeated Troy (Fullerton) 41-0. Highlanders will have a major test next week in their spring finale vs. 5-0 Sunny Hills.
25. Loyola (Los Angeles) 3-0
Defeated St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) 31-0. Brayden Zermeno passed for three TDs to lead the Cubs.

Defeated Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park) 17-0 on Saturday.
Carlsbad 4-0
Defeated La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) 56-7. Rivalry game usually is closer.
Chaminade (West Hills) 3-2
Defeated No. 10 Alemany (Mission Hills) 34-27 on Saturday. QB Jaylen Henderson passed for four TDs and rushed for 125 yards and another score. Look for Eagles to come up in front of the two teams they lost to in the next rankings after getting this win.
Clayton Valley (Concord) 4-1
Defeated San Ramon Valley (Danville) 17-14 on Saturday.
Clovis 2-2
Defeated Clovis East (Clovis) 39-27.
Edison (Huntington Beach) 4-1
Defeated Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 44-41 in 5 OTs. The Chargers, who have lost only to Los Alamitos, were tied with the Sea Kings at 21-21 after regulation, then 28-28 after one OT, then 35-35 after two OTs, then 38-38 after three OTs, then still 38-38 after four OTs (both teams had turnovers) and finally 44-41 after five. The state record for most OTs for two teams is seven, set in 1991 by Perris (70) vs. Palm Springs (62).
Liberty (Bakersfield) 3-0
Defeated Frontier (Bakersfield) 23-19. Prentice Boone scored on 14-yd TD run in game’s last minute.
Lincoln (Stockton) 3-0
Defeated Lodi 34-7. Next Friday will be game vs. St. Mary’s (Stockton).
Lutheran (Orange) 1-2
LOST on Saturday 55-0 to No. 1 St. John Bosco.
Mission Hills (San Marcos) 4-0
Defeated El Camino (Oceanside) 37-21.
Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 3-1
LOST to Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 51-41 on Thursday night.

Defeated Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 51-41. Win cements team at No. 3 in Inland Empire behind Norco & Centennial and should result in rankings jump.
