1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 3-0
Bryce Young and the Monarchs blasted Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) 71-21. The USC commit threw for 528 yards passing on 31-of-37 for seven touchdowns in only three quarters of work. Three Mater Dei wide receivers also hit over 100-yard mark for the game.
2. (2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 3-0
Braves handled Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) 49-7 in game played at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Clemson commit DJ Uiagalelei had six touchdowns for the game.
3. De La Salle (Concord) 2-1
In a game that the Spartans could have looked past, they made quick work of a strong formally ranked St. Francis (Mountain View) 48-0. Dorian Hale had 159 passing yards in one half of work and the Spartans combined for 283 rushing yards as a unit. Up next week is the showdown with No. 4 Folsom to decide the top team in Northern California.

4. Folsom 2-0
The Bulldogs finished up a tune up game by racing out to a 49-0 lead over Antelope. Folsom cruised to a 49-13 victory and will look to snap the De La Salle Northern California unbeaten streak (301 games but not including Fresno) next week at home.
5. Centennial (Corona) 1-2
LOST at No. 6 Cathedral Catholic of San Diego 44-41. Nick Floyd gave the Huskies leads of 35-34 and 41-37 in the fourth quarter with touchdown runs. They just left too much time for the Dons to get the winning score.
6. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 3-0
D.J. Ralph snuck into the end zone with 40 seconds left and the Dons held on to beat No. 5 Centennial (Corona) 44-41. Another huge moment was a 94-yard kickoff return TD by Christian Hall in the third quarter that broke a 28-28 tie.
7. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 2-1
JSerra pummeled talented and ranked No. 33 Bishop Amat (La Puente) 38-14. Score at halftime was 35-0 and it wasn’t close. The Lancers were sitting both Damien Moore and Dyson McCutcheon with injuries.
8. Calabasas 2-1
The Coyotes fell in double overtime to No. 14 Serra (Gardena) 26-20. Calabasas missed a field goal in the first overtime. The team also rallied from a 20-6 second-half deficit.
9. Mission Viejo 3-0
That Mission Viejo defense keeps a solid No. 22 La Habra squad down in a 23-6 victory. Mission will be at least one spot higher in the next rankings.
10. Narbonne (Harbor City) 2-1
Gauchos had little trouble with St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) as they rolled to a 56-19 victory. Game with Serra (Gardena) coming up next week also just got a lot more important.
11. Liberty (Brentwood) 3-0
Head coach Ryan Patridge’s club took on No. 47 Clayton Valley of Concord on Saturday in the feature game of the three-game Honor Bowl played at James Logan High in Union City and needed overtime for a 28-27 victory. For recap, CLICK HERE.
12. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 2-1
The Trailblazers couldn’t keep up momentum from their season-opening win over Lawndale and fell to No. 27 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 21-14. The Lions scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull off the victory.
13. Grace Brethren (Simi Valley) 3-0
There was no let down game for Grace Brethren after stunning Oaks Christian last week, as it dealt with Muir (Pasadena) 38-18. The Lancers also have another first coming up due to Calabasas and Sierra Canyon losses: No. 1 team for Ventura County/San Fernando Valley.
14. Serra (Gardena) 2-0
The Cavaliers grab one of the biggest victories of the evening, as they upend No. 8 Calabasas 26-20 in double overtime. Doug Brumfield connected with Lavon Bunkley for the game-winning touchdown.

15. Central (Fresno) 3-0
The Grizzlies add another San-Joaquin Section team to their trophy case, as Central blasts upstart Whitney (Rocklin) 45-16 Central jumped out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter and never trailed.
16. Valley Christian (San Jose) 2-0
The Warriors had little problem from the top team in the Northern Section by rolling past Pleasant Valley (Chico) 37-0. Valley Christian and Serra of San Mateo now look to be the top two squads from the Central Coast Section so far this season.
17. Rancho Cucamonga 1-2
Rancho Cucamonga fell to No. 18 Norco 59-44 in a shootout. C.J. Stroud threw well in defeat, as the senior had a reported 309 yards on 23 of 37 passing and connected on four touchdown passes.
18. Norco 2-0
Norco held on to defeat No. 17 Rancho Cucamonga 59-44. In a contest all about the two quarterbacks, it was Fernando Chairez who propelled Norco. The running back finished with 138 yards on the ground and scored five touchdowns.
19. St. Augustine (San Diego) 3-0
One of the contenders for top team in the San Diego Section had little trouble with Loyola (Los Angeles), as St. Augustine cruised to 42-5 victory.
20. (21) Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 3-0
It was a close contest for Corona del Mar as the Sea Kings escaped with a 20-10 victory over No. 40 Palos Verdes (PV Estates), which also goes by the Sea Kings.
21. Servite (Anaheim) 1-1
One of Orange County’s best teams lost to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Saturday 42-21. All three Servite TDs came on passes from Noah Fifita to Zedekiah Centers.
22. La Habra 2-1
The Highlanders were unable to stop a dominating Mission Viejo defensive line and fell to No. 9 Diablos 23-6.
23. Alemany (Mission Hills) 3-0
The Warriors came off of a bye week and took care of Dorsey (Los Angeles) 34-7 in a contest played on Friday afternoon.
24. Serra (San Mateo) 2-0
In one of the more eye opening scores of the weekend so far, the Padres routed No. 25 Menlo-Atherton 38-13 at Levi’s Stadium. Nate Sanchez picked up all five touchdowns for Serra. Padres versus Valley Christian could be the highlight of the Central Coast Section this season.
25. Menlo-Atherton (Atherton) 2-1
The Bears ran into a buzz saw in No. 24 Serra (San Mateo), as the Padres bashed Menlo-Atherton 38-15 in a contest that was expected to be close.

TEAMS ON THE BUBBLE
Bishop Amat (La Puente) 2-1
Scored two touchdowns in the second half, but couldn’t keep up with No. 7 JSerra (SJ Capistrano) in a 38-14 defeat.
Buchanan (Clovis) 2-1
The Bears handled Edison (Fresno) 17-0 and didn’t look ahead to their showdown with Liberty (Bakersfield) to see which one will challenge Central (Fresno) for the title of top team in the Central Section.
Carlsbad 2-1
It was a tight game between No. 38 Lawndale and Carlsbad, but Lawndale pull out the 35-16 victory.
Clayton Valley (Concord) 1-1
LOST in overtime 28-27 to No. 11 Liberty (Brentwood). For recap, CLICK HERE.
Lawndale 1-1
After falling to Sierra Canyon last week, Lawndale grabbed its first victory on the season with a 35-16 win over No. 37 Carlsbad. Lawndale shutout Carlsbad in the second half after a close opening two quarters.
Liberty (Bakersfield) 3-0
The Patriots passed their first test with a 17-7 victory over No. 49 Clovis West (Fresno). Liberty blocked a field goal attempt heading into half time.
Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 3-0
For the second year in a row, the Mustangs handled San Ramon Valley (Danville), as Monterey Trail cruised to 48-6 victory over Wolves.
Monte Vista (Danville) 2-0
The Mustangs held off a good San Leandro squad 20-0. It was only a 7-0 Monte Vista lead in the third quarter and San Leandro was in the end zone when Jacob Oliphant took an interception 100 yards for the touchdown.
Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 2-0
Moorpark was little challenge for the Knights as they jumped out to a 35-0 lead at halftime en route to 49-7 win.
Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 2-0
The Trojans had their game cancelled on Friday with Bishop Manogue of Reno when too many players from Manogue came down with cases of food poisoning. They don’t get a forfeit win, but that wouldn’t count in our rankings anyway.
Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 2-1
Huge bounce back game for the Lions, as Oaks Christian scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat No. 12 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth). 21-14. Derek Boyd had both late touchdowns, as he had to replace injuried two way star Mister Williams.
Palos Verdes (PV Estates) 2-1
Palos Verdes proved something in a 20-10 defeat to No. 20 Corona del Mar.
Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley) 2-1
Rancho Verde couldn’t keep up with a talented No. 26 Upland and fell 30-7 at home.
San Clemente 3-0
The Tritons came back to defeat La Cosa Canyon (Carlsbad) 13-12 in a nail biter.
Upland 2-1
This team is starting to put things together, as it jumped out to a 20-0 advantage over No. 31 Rancho Verde and cruised for a 30-7 victory.
Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 2-0

Cathedral Catholic is looking like a Top 5 team this year; maybe even the3rd best team in CA. Is there any scenario in which Cathedral could play MD or Bosco (assuming they win-out)?
None. The only conceivable way would be it MD or SJB each lose 2-3 games in league and fall to D-II… which isn’t remotely likely.
I think it’s time to recognize that Brentwood Liberty is not a top 15 team in the state. Back-to-back close calls against teams that won’t sniff the top 25.
Dropped a couple of spots this week. Most of us who’ve seen Serra and Liberty would pick Serra in a game, but you can’t drop kids a bunch of spots when they continue to win. Liberty still has Monte Vista, Cardinal Newman and Pitt in league. It will all work itself out.
