No. 1 ranked Salesian of Richmond continues to roll, and Sierra Canyon and Bishop Montgomery survived pool play to advance to the CIF Southern Section Open Division title game on Saturday. Does Bishop Montgomery now deserve to be ranked ahead of Rancho Christian? Three newcomers go in as the most in-depth boys basketball rankings across the state move forward. We also already have our first CIFSS team ranked this high that is done for the season and that team may stay ranked this high all the way until the final rankings.

1. (1) Salesian (Richmond) 29-0
Head coach Bill Mellis’ squad took over the top spot last week and is the overwhelming favorite to capture the CIF North Coast Section D3 crown and enter the NorCal Open Division playoffs as the top seed. Salesian’s overall resume continues to look good, as Curie of Chicago captured the Chicago Public League title at 29-1 with its only loss to the California team. The Pride opened the NCS playoffs with a rout of Kennedy of Fremont (72-18) and downed San Marin of Novato (84-43) in the second round. Jovon McClanahan had nine points and junior wing Tyler Brinkman eight points in the easy win over Kennedy while McClanahan and Brinkman went for 13 points each versus San Marin. The leading scorer versus San Marin was junior Shane Bell with 19 points for Salesian, which takes on 19-6 St. Joseph of Alameda in the semifinals with the No. 2 (Campolindo of Moraga) and No. 3 (St. Patrick-St. Vincent of Vallejo) seeds still alive on the other side of the bracket.
