We are happy to say that for the sixth straight year the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports is part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.
On last week’s 10th show for the 2018 season, we revealed our list for the Top 5 records for one school for one decade in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history. Here is what that countdown revealed:
1. Cordova (Rancho Cordova) 1970s at 102-6-1
The Lancers were No. 1 in the state in 1975 and 1977 and their record in the 1970s also was the best of any school in the nation. Before De La Salle, this was the perennial team to beat in Northern California for many years.
2. Folsom 2010s at 103-10
This one isn’t done yet for this decade, but so far the Bulldogs have won 91 percent of their games since 2010. Note: It may be 104-10 after this Friday night’s game.
3. Central Catholic (Modesto) 2000s at 112-12-1
Included in this record is a 61-game win streak by the Raiders from 2001 to 2005, which is No. 2 on all-time state list.
4. Escalon 1990s at 106-16
Head coach Mark Loureiro just retired after last season as the winningest coach in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history.
5. Grant (Sacramento) 2000s at 107-17
Who will ever forget the Pacers beating Long Beach Poly in the 2008 CIF Open Division state final? They may have been just as good in 2009 and 2010, but didn’t have the magic at the end.
This 30-minute show is twice as long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market and is returning to the Friday at 11 p.m. time slot.
Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five regular season rushing leaders in section history. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including the Fan Favorite Game of the Week. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
