NEW State Top 50 FB Ranks (1-25)

Both of the teams in this photo had a huge impact on this week’s State Top 50 rankings as Mac Bingham (with ball) scored eight TDs in win over Oceanside for No. 12 Torrey Pines. San Clemente upset previous No. 8 Mission Viejo. Photo: @TPFB_2018 / Twitter.com.

Teams on the rise include Liberty of Brentwood joining the top 10 for the first time in school history (and that’s a school that goes back a long time), Torrey Pines up to No. 12 and Buchanan of Clovis up to No. 20. We also only dropped JSerra one position after its loss to Mater Dei since the Lions still have a head-to-head win over the next team in line after them. Biggest games this week are for No. 6 Folsom and No. 25 Vista Murrieta.

1. (1) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 9-0
If there’s a frontrunner in high school football like Alabama in college, then it’s the Braves. They followed up their 41-18 win in their previous game over Mater Dei that firmly established themselves as the No. 1 team in the state and nation with a 49-14 victory last Friday on the road against Santa Margarita. The Eagles did well to tie it up early at 7-7, but a 63-yard touchdown pass from D.J. Uigalelei to Colby Bowman followed by a 45-yard TD run by Uigalelei blew it open. Bosco led 35-7 at half and coasted from there. The team should win similarly this week at home against state No. 21 Servite of Anaheim and then a few days after that will get the top seed for the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. The next real test may not be until the Braves play in the semifinals of that bracket.
