All-State Softball: 2nd & 3rd Teams

Among those who are All-State in softball and on the second team overall are catcher Frankie Hammoude of Oakland Bishop O’Dowd and pitcher Mackenzie Kohl of Santa Ana Mater Dei. Hammoude, headed to Oregon State, batted .547 for the Dragons with eight homers. Kohl, the SoCalSidelines Orange County pitcher of the year and going to the University of Ohio, went 19-4 with a 1.32 ERA facing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The 36th annual Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams selections for softball also includes 30 players named second team overall plus 30 more who are third team. Any player from any school regardless of class or school size can be on second team. The third team, however, is only for seniors and only for large schools.

Note: We hope you enjoy this free post on CalHiSports.com. We’ll also have an inside look at this year’s all-state softball teams after all of the teams are chosen, including additional all-state freshmen and all-state sophomores. That post plus some of our upcoming preseason statewide football content is for Gold Club members only. To join our team today, CLICK HERE.

If you are chosen to any of the Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams, you should consider yourself an “all-state” player. Whether it’s first team overall, second team overall, third team, underclass, medium schools or small schools, to be on any of these teams should be considered an all-state honor. It makes everyone eligible to purchase an All-State patch through our partners from BillyTees.com. We wish we could send them all out for free, but there are no sponsors to cover the cost. Each patch also comes with a certificate suitable for framing. For details on the patch, CLICK HERE.

There are 1,200 high schools in California and just about any place you go the competition in softball is unbelievable.

Whether you are counting ladies who are playing in the Women’s College World Series or whether you are looking at leaders of USA national teams, there still is nowhere in the world that can match California softball.

We try to research and collect info from everywhere we can and we give people several weeks to send in nominations. Still, it’s not a perfect system so of course it’s possible to miss on a deserving player.

With that said, congratulations to the following 2018 Cal-Hi Sports all-state softball second team members as well as third team:

This is California high school softball so even many of the third teamers on the annual all-state teams are D1 college bound players who would be elite all-state players in many other states. One of those is pitcher-hitter Cassidy Cangemi from Golden Valley of Santa Clarita. She’ll play next at Boise State. She batted .426 this season with a 17-4 record in the circle. She also had a 1.41 ERA and 223 strikeouts in 133 2/3 innings. Photo: signalscv.com.
