Here’s some record updates and highlights of top players & teams from the recent week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.
FOOTBALL
Senior Kazmeir Allen of Tulare set a school record by scoring eight touchdowns on runs of 17, 54, 33, 61, 5, 7, 60 & 10 yards in a 61-26 win over visiting Sunnyside of Fresno in the CIF Central Section D2 playoffs. The eights TDs also ties him with five others for the best in section history. Allen rushed for a personal best of 434 yards for the game as well on 31 carries.
RECORD WATCH: Allen has 63 touchdowns for the season (including 15 in the last two weeks alone) and a new section record. He only needs one more to tie and two more to break the single season Cal-Hi Sports state record of 64 set in 2000 by Tyler Ebell of Ventura. Kazmeir also has 113 career touchdowns, fourth best in section history, and 5,486 career rushing yards.

There was another wild-and-wacky game outside of Tulare and for the second week in a row Mt. Whitney of Visalia was in the middle of it. Madera beat visiting Mount Whitney 76-62 in a D3 playoff game and many section records were established between two schools, including the most points scored (138) in a playoff game and 10 touchdown passes between two quarterbacks. Mt. Whitney had just won 57-56 in its previous game against Redwood of Visalia.
For the winning Coyotes, junior quarterback Colton Nelson had a game high of 412 yards on 21 of 33 and five touchdowns. Nelson also scored two touchdowns on runs 10 & 3 yards. Sophomore place kicker Brisa Meza of Madera also set a section record, as she made the most conversions in one game for a girl by making 10 out of 11 attempts.
For Mt. Whitney, junior quarterback Jaedyn Pineda was also outstanding last Friday night. He passed for five touchdowns and 352 yards on 26 of 35 and rushed for 65 yards for a combined total of 417 yards.
Senior Joseph Garcia of Strathmore is starting to warm up in the playoffs by rushing for a game high of 203 yards on 23 carries and scoring twice in a 24-6 win over Orange Cove. Garcia pushed his career total to 93 touchdowns, fifth best in section history and has 5,171 career rushing yards.
Senior quarterback Payton Mayer of Clovis set a new school record by passing for seven touchdowns and a whopping 407 yards (fifth best in school history) in a 49-39 win over visiting Ridgeview of Bakersfield in the D1 section playoffs. Mayer completed 14 of 26 passes and reached 5th best in school history for single game passing yards. Receiver Bubba Byrd also had 5 receptions for a career-best 218 yards and two touchdowns for Clovis.
Quarterback Antonio Andrade from Monache of Porterville passed for 266 yards on 15-of-27 and had four touchdowns in a 50-28 win over Liberty of Madera Ranchos. Receiver Marlon Johnson also set a new school record with four TD catches and had a career high of six receptions for 174 yards.
In same game, senior Kaleb Roth led Liberty by rushing for 269 yards (a new school record) on 32 carries and scored two touchdowns on runs of 70 & 7 yards. Roth also ended season with 24 touchdowns, 2nd most in school history.
Tyreak Walker of Delano Kennedy had a game high by rushing for 203 yards on 12 carries and scored four touchdowns on runs of 47, 3, 58 & 78 yards in a 59-40 win over Fowler.
Senior Isaiah Martin of Bakersfield Garces, a four-year player on the varsity, rushed for 160 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns on runs of 12 & 1 yard and has 45 touchdowns for his career as Garces beat Frontier of Bakersfield 30-22 in D2 playoffs. Sophomore kicker Peter Delis also made three field goals that measured 36, 37 & 37 yards and leads the section with 11. He also was perfect on conversions 3-for-3 and had 12 kicking points.
Finally, quarterback Isaiah Escobar of Rosamond has led the team all season long and had a nice game as Rosamond beat Sierra Pacific of Hanford 67-26. Escobar connected on 14 of 24 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns.
