A few more State Stat Stars of Week

We didn’t do a column this week, but wanted to record these totals onto the site from last week’s football games. This list doesn’t include any SoCal/NorCal players of the week and for those from the CIF Central Section see separate post on this blog. Even more players are mentioned in our various State Top 50 team highlight writeups.

Ernie Arcia (South Gate): After he went 22 of 30 passing for 411 yards and five TDs in a 49-20 win vs. Roosevelt of Los Angeles, Arcia went past 2,200 yards for the season. He also rushed for 83 yards on seven carries.
Bobby Avina (Gregori, Modesto): In helping the Jaguars get to 9-0 on the season, Avina completed 19 of 24 passes for 392 yards and four TDs in a 41-14 victory over Grace Davis of Modesto. He also now had 24 TD passes and more than 2,000 yards for the season.
John Bell (Sobrato, Morgan Hill): In a 53-0 win against Prospect of Saratoga, Bell was perfect throwing the ball, going 7-for-7 for 116 yards and one rushing TD. He has been a standout at the school in both football and baseball for three years.
Micah Bernard (Gahr, Cerritos): His 58-yard TD run in the closing seconds gave the Gladiators a 46-42 win over Warren of Downey. It came after they recovered an onside kick. Bernard ended with 30 carries for 392 yards and four TDs. Two of his other TDs were on bursts of 89 and 71 yards. Aaron Hawk led Gahr’s defense with three interceptions in the same game.
Jake Jackson (Foothill, Pleasanton): In a 48-0 win vs. Dougherty Valley of San Ramon, Jackson scored six TDs (all in the first half). To account for those scores he ran for two, caught two, ran back an interception 25 yards for a score and ran back a fumble 46 yards for another TD.
Jeffrey Jackson (Bishop’s, La Jolla): He passed for 304 yards and three TDs and rushed for 72 yards on 16 attempts in 38-13 win over Santa Fe Christian of Solana Beach. Jackson also pushed his career totals to 102 TD passes and 7,654 yards. He’s not going to reach Braxton Burmeister’s San Diego Section record of 11,512 yards but he may get close to the section record for career TD passes, which Burmeister set last season at 127.
Blake Kirshner (Santa Clarita Valley Christian, Canyon Country): Although he had a couple of interceptions, Kirshner kept up his hot hand by hitting on 23 of 35 passes for 412 yards and three TDs in a 42-0 win over Capistrano Valley Christian. He also moved past 2,600 yards for the season and his team improved to 8-0.
Sebastian Kronberger (Lakewood): In rushing for 338 yards on 29 carries, Kronberger set a school record for the Lancers in their 42-6 win against Compton. Kronberger also scored five TDs.
Robert Patterson (Rolling Hills Prep, San Pedro): This is from an eight-man game but deserves mention. Patterson had a 55-yard interception return TD and also batted away another pass in a 31-0 shutout of La Verne Lutheran. He was playing the game still with a heavy heart. His mother, Lisa, perished recently in the Las Vegas mass shooting.
Noah Sanchez (Whittier Christian, La Habra): Caught 10 passes for 204 yards and two TDs in 58-29 loss to Maranatha of Sierra Madre.
James Sweet (Lincoln): Hybrid style running back-slot receiver hauled in 18 catches for 181 yards and three TDs as the Zebras topped Center of Antelope 43-20. Sweet entered this weekend’s games with 68 catches and 1,100 yards for the season.
Sal Tovar (South El Monte): It was close but South El Monte improved to 7-1 after edging Rosemead 28-27 and Tovar had another fine game. The senior running back had 27 carries for 324 yards and four TDs.
Dylan Williams (Half Moon Bay): In Half Moon Bay’s 28-10 victory over powerhouse Menlo-Atherton, Williams hit field goals of 49 and 32 yards. He also is now 41-of-41 on PATs on the season and has a season total of 42 touchbacks.
Piedmont Hills (San Jose) vs. Leigh (San Jose)
This shootout game from the CIF Central Coast Section saw Piedmont Hills pile up 574 yards of offense in a 64-48 victory. The Pirates, however, were outgained by the Longhorns. They had 589 yards for a two-team total of 1,163 yards.
