All state football team records, some that date back more than 100 years, have now been updated prior to the start of the 2017 season. To see all of the record lists requires a Gold Club membership, but here is a look at some of the highlights in some of the various categories. Note: There is no other state record source for football than Cal-Hi Sports. The research spans more than 40 years when our founder, the late Nelson Tennis, began jotting down win streak records in 1975.

Best Records in 2010s
De La Salle (Concord) still leads the state with a mark of 95-5 after last year’s team went 13-2 that included a win over 11-0 Freedom of Oakley in the CIF North Coast Section Open Division title game before a loss to St. John Bosco in the CIF Open Division state final. Head coach Justin Alumbaugh took over the program after the 2012 season from legendary Bob Ladouceur. DLS also has these amazing win-loss records that are the best in the state (and nation) by a wide margin: 230-17-1 since 2000, 381-19-2 since 1990 and 447-27-3 since 1980. Folsom actually has just as many wins as the Spartans in the 2010s, but has four more losses.

Schools With Best All-Time Records
Two that are coming up the charts quickly are the two schools that both were 15-0 last year and won CIF state titles. Cathedral Catholic of San Diego, which won the CIF Division I-AA state title, begins 2017 with a reported 113-26 record since its first games in 2006. The Dons moved up to the No. 6 position on the all-time list. Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth, which won the CIF Division 2-A state crown, actually had a 16-0 official record but one of those wins was by forfeit so for the Cal-Hi Sports state records that goes in at 15-0. The Trail Blazers start 2017 at a reported 102-23-1, which computes to an 82.0 winning percentage and is just in front of Cathedral Catholic. We also got a hunch to figure out Inderkum of Sacramento and the Tigers wound up even higher than Sierra Canyon and Cathedral Catholic. Head coach Terry Stark’s squad has gone 130-26 since the 2005 season, which was his and the program’s first.

Schools With Most All-Time Wins
Defending CIF Central Section champion Bakersfield is up to 774 wins since the 1890s and should be strong once again in 2017. Long Beach Poly, which has sent more players to the NFL than any other school in California (and the nation), is the only other school in the state with more than 700. Bakersfield’s total includes rugby in years when it was played as a substitute for American football. Last year, Santa Ana went 13-1 and if the Saints get close to that many wins again they’ll be the next to go over 600 all-time wins. We have Santa Ana at 590 to start 2017. For the next school to reach 500, it could be San Mateo. The Bearcats need just four more wins to get there, according to our totals. Fort Bragg has one total at 494 from a local newspaper, but our archives had the team at 483 with four additional wins by forfeit.

Longest Winning Streaks
There is no current win streak beyond 30 games as the 2017 season gets going. Mission Viejo had a 39-game streak stopped in a matchup last season of two 11-0 teams in the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals.

Longest Losing Streaks
We’ll be rooting for the boys at Elsie Allen of Santa Rosa to get off the schneid quickly during the first few weeks of the season. The Lobos have lost 36 straight games and another 0-10 season will get them close to the state record of 49 straight losses set between 2003 and 2008 by Ganesha of Pomona.

Most Points (Season)
Folsom’s 915 points when it set the state record in 2014 remains insane. Last year’s top scoring team for points also was from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section as St. Mary’s of Stockton finished with 831 points in a 14-2 campaign. For scoring average, however, good ‘ol Corona Centennial was No. 1 in California at 53.4 ppg. The Huskies only played 13 games since they lost by one point to St. John Bosco in the CIFSS D1 semifinals. Head coach Matt Logan’s squad averaged 54.1 in 15 games in 2015.http://wpenginestatus.com/

Most Yards Total Offense (Season)
Someday, we really would love to see Folsom and Corona Centennial hook up for a game. Insanity guaranteed. In the last three seasons, Folsom has had 8,632 yards, 7,015 yards and 6,392 yards of reported total offense. For Centennial, the Huskies have had 6,667 yards, 7,699 yards and 7,410 yards.

Most Points (Single Game)
The category in this section that has had the most additions is most points by losing team. Compton had 64 points last season in a 80-64 loss to Lakewood while Oaks Christian had 62 points in a 70-62 loss to Murrieta Valley.

Most CIF Section Championships
Among the group of teams that added to their record totals for winning CIF section titles were Bakersfield, De La Salle and Sutter. This page of the record book also includes most consecutive playoff appearances. La Mirada has the lead with 37 in a row in a streak that began in the 1980 season. De La Salle also has now tied Long Beach Poly for No. 2 on that list. The Jackrabbits didn’t qualify during the 2015 season, snapping a streak of 35 straight years in which they did.

Most Wins & Most Games (Season)
With the CIF expanding its bowl game system to 13 divisions, the ability for a team to play 16 games in a season already has become commonplace. Still, it’s not going to be easy to play 15 or 16 games in a season and win them all. That only happened last season for Cathedral Catholic of San Diego and Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth.
