With a memorable Super Bowl completing the NFL season last week, this is the third in a series of posts in which we rank the top 20 all-time players from the state from every position. These rankings will be different than others we’ve done in the past in that they’ll be based strictly on how players have done after high school and not on what they did during high school. The receivers (tight ends will be done separately for you Tony Gonzalez fans) are led by two who won CIF state long jump titles in track. Plus, we had to move up Woodside’s Julian Edelman for what he’s now done in two of the last three Super Bowls.

(Note: The following players from California high schools are all ranked in order based on their success after they’ve gone on to college and to the NFL. Writeups by editor Mark Tennis, Stockton office assistant editor Paul Muyskens and Sean Tennis, University of Nevada.)
