Ventura complicates matters further by beating No. 1 Mitty and winning Santa Barbara TOC. New No. 1 is Santa Margarita, which has now beaten early-season No. 1 Mater Dei three times in a row. Menlo-Atherton also makes a big move in the north by winning Tiger Cup tourney over state-ranked Notre Dame of Belmont and Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills.

1. (2) Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 28-4
Head coach Katy Daly’s team capped off a perfect record in Trinity League play with its third win this season over Mater Dei of Santa Ana and now moves up to No. 1 in the Cal-Hi Sports state rankings. They also are No. 1 in MaxPreps’ national computer rankings. In the 3-1 win over the Monarchs, the Eagles were led on offense by Meghan McClure, who had 26 kills while Sarah Ciszek added 12 kills. Julianna Reisinger helped lead the defensive effort with 22 digs while Devon Chang had 58 assists.
2. (3) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 30-5
Despite their losses to Santa Margarita, the Monarchs are still looking good in the overall scheme of things due to their head-to-head win over Mitty and their title at the Durango Fall Classic national event.
3. (4) Marymount (Los Angeles) 30-4
With just the two in-state losses to Santa Margarita, the Sailors keep on rising. They didn’t go to Santa Barbara, but they did win the Redondo Power Classic. Their final two wins in that event were against Valencia and the host Seahawks.
4. (1) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 29-4
This is where the Monarchs fall after their 3-2 loss to Ventura in the title game of the Santa Barbara TOC. You have to credit them for being in all of the top tourneys and for not losing in a very strong league. The overall resume is still stronger than Ventura’s, but losing that match also has to cost them some rankings positions.
5. (5) Edison (Huntington Beach) 29-7
It was a ho-hum week for the Chargers, who stay put after a pair of Sunset League wins.
6. (7) Huntington Beach 25-4
The Oilers are still behind Edison, but they are still in front of Lakewood and get to come up one spot due to Mira Costa dropping. Wins last week were against Marina and Newport Harbor.

7. (8) Lakewood 28-4
Having that recent win over Torrey Pines helps the Lancers gain one position this week due to Torrey Pines beating Mira Costa at the Santa Barbara TOC.
8. (15) Ventura 30-2
Making a nice jump up into the top 10, the Cougars ended the regular season by going to the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions and capturing the championship with a win over Torrey Pines of San Diego in the finals. During the win over the Falcons, it was a pair of seniors who led the way as Sammy Slater had 23 kills while Aubrey Knight added 20 kills. Also at the tournament, Ventura had wins over Great Oak of Temecula, La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad and previous state No. 1 Archbishop Mitty of San Jose.
9. (10) Torrey Pines (San Diego) 25-4
This record doesn’t include Thursday result this week for match against La Costa Canyon. The Falcons had some quality wins at the Santa Barbara TOC, including one vs. Mira Costa, and their loss in that event was to new No. 8 Ventura.
10. (9) San Juan Hills (SJ Capistrano) 24-2
While they didn’t go and win a big tournament, the Stallions did take care of business and won their final two games of the season over San Clemente and Laguna Beach. Junior Katie Lukes had a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 15 digs while senior Mikayla Arimura had 27 assists in the straight set win over the Breakers.
11. (6) Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 25-8
The Mustangs have already forgotten about Santa Barbara where they lost matches to Mitty and Torrey Pines. That’s because already this week they won at home for the first time since 2011 against arch-rival Redondo Union.
12. (12) St. Ignatius (San Francisco) 27-6
We couldn’t wait to include this week’s West Catholic Athletic League playoffs in this week’s rankings. The semifinals are Wednesday and the final Friday. The Wildcats are facing St. Francis of Mountain View in the semifinals. No. 4 Mitty is the favorite.
13. (16) Sacred Heart Cathedral (SF) 26-6
After their strong showing from the week before at the Stockton Classic, the Irish stayed hot by recording an avenging win vs. Valley Christian of San Jose and then they went 5-0 in two-game matches at the SpikeFest II.
14. (NR) Menlo-Atherton (Atherton) 25-4
Taking a break from Peninsula Bay League play where they have not lost a match all season, the Bears went to the Tiger Cup Invitational and captured the championship with a 2-1 win over previous No. 11 Notre Dame of Belmont. Eliza Grover had a team-high 12 kills while Jacqueline DiSanto had 10 kills in the championship game win. M-A, which has been a favorite team in Northern California all season by our partners at SportStars, also improve their current winning streak to 24 matches.
15. (11) Notre Dame (Belmont) 30-9
The Tigers had to drop and make room for the Menlo-Atherton team that they lost to by a 2-1 score in the championship game of the Tiger Cup last week. On the way to the championship game, the Tigers won all eight sets without dropping one and in the finals they got a match-high 13 kills from Katie Smoot.
16. (17) Christian Brothers (Sacramento) 22-5
Since their third-place finish at the Stockton Classic, the Falcons have posted wins against Vista del Lago of Folsom, Mira Loma of Sacramento and Rio Americano of Sacramento.
17. (NR) Temecula Valley (Temecula) 24-4
Yep, it’s clearly time to move up the Golden Bears. One of their wins has come against Canyon Crest Academy. Their losses are to Mater Dei, Huntington Beach, Ventura and Hamilton of Arizona (which has been nationally ranked this year).
18. (18) Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 31-7
The Trojans don’t drop since their loss last week was to a Menlo-Atherton squad that is now higher. They also remain the favorite in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs.
19. (13) La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) 21-8
One loss to Ventura at the Santa Barbara TOC wasn’t bad given that the Cougars ended up winning it. The Mustangs, though, also dropped one to Corona del Mar of Newport Beach, which did cause a rankings drop. LCC is playing Torrey Pines this week and still has a head-to-head win against Canyon Crest.
20. (20) Canyon Crest Academy (San Diego) 17-9
There was a loss last week suffered by the Ravens, but it was to No. 9 Torrey Pines so they hung on at the No. 20 position in this week’s rankings.
