It’s a second straight week of how to re-shuffle the section rankings after a massive upset, in this case Davis beating previous section No. 3 Elk Grove 16-14. The Blue Devils get rewarded for the win, but so does one team they lost to earlier in the season, Woodcreek of Roseville.

One team that probably isn’t pleased with these new rankings is Vintage of Napa, which edged Davis 25-22 earlier in the season. We decided not to move in the Crushers despite that result because we wanted to leave in Elk Grove. The Thundering Herd were the D1 section finalists last season, after all, and they’re playing new No. 2 Grant at home on Friday.
Two teams that Woodcreek lost to earlier, Sheldon of Sacramento and Antelope, also are now 5-0 after two more big wins. Sheldon’s rise under first-year head coach Joe Cattolico is not surprising given his previous successes at both Independence (San Jose) and Pleasant Grove and the Huskies won last week 27-22 over previous section No. 16 Monterey Trail. Antelope blew by Ponderosa of Shingle Springs 48-21 and features perhaps the top running back in the section, Elijah Dotson.
Previous No. 25 Lincoln of Stockton also had to drop out after the Davis upset since the Trojans lost to Elk Grove 65-12. Lincoln won last week 49-0 over Cesar Chavez of Stockton.

SM playing without Dusty Frampton (2 carries 16yards) for the entire game was a huge loss. Had he played, our red zone offense is more efficient and saves Villegas & Ford for defensive duties only and not carrying the rushing load. There is no team in NorCal like Bosco and SM moved the ball well in the 1st half and cause multiple punts from Bosco. We will see how this all shakes out once playoffs start.
Now you know how Central Catholic felt, SM looked good against CC JV team.
CC had no chance against SM. Central got blanked and scored on at will against those “suspended” guys. You may say we had no chance against Bosco. Either way, we both will show what we are about in the next few weeks.
FURTHERMORE… no team in NORCAL has played any team like Bosco.. PERIOD
And for those of you who dont know, this senior class at DLS was MANHALDED by this senior class at SM as Freshman and as JV.. St Matys hasnt been given the honor of playing them the last 2 years… As for CC, Please… did ANYBODY notice the CC first string team… COULD NOT SCORE ON St Marys 2nd & 3rd string teams in the second half??????
Bring on FolsomWITHOUT FOLSOM REFS, and we shall seem as for DEL ORO,…. you have to be kidding me, they will get punked just as DLS did as Freshman and JV, WHICh BY THE WAY this Senior class already did.
What does a JV or freshman game have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing.
And we’re not arguing about CC.
Somebody had to drop after Loyola had upset Bishop Amat and didn’t want to drop either JSerra or Servite (two teams Bishop Amat beat).
With Bells playing St. Francis, St. Mary’s became one of those teams.
We know they aren’t going to lose in league, so moving them back in after a week or two made the most sense to us.
You failed to realize that these seniors were a freshman at one point and sophomores at one point and could play the same kids who are now seniors at De Oro and DLS…
No doubt they have improved.. as has SM
Give me ONE team in NORCAL including your godsons at DLS with a tougher non-league schedule that St Mary’s… name one?
Playing Bosco when no one else did obviously puts SM first in that category, but you’re having a cow over one week of rankings.
And if Bosco is so dirty and had LA refs, you’ll get “your” refs next year when they come here.
I guess Elk Grove jumps right back into the top 5 above SM because they beat 4-0 grant who played KNOW ONE all season (with all due respect to my friends at Rocklin)!!! And Grant because they play in the mighty delta league stays in the top 5? IJS Yeah, I know, TCAL isn’t the best league, but SM played a better and tougher non-league schedule than the delta league schedule.
Have we ever done a ranking that stupid ever? No, and I guarantee that isn’t happening this week, either.
Elk Grove has a loss to Davis, obviously, so Grant losing to them the next week is pretty bad.
Even the section office was speculating last week that a possible 10-0 Delta League team and a possible 10-0 Sierra Foothill League team would be seeded higher than likely 9-1 St. Mary’s. Well, now the 10-0 Delta League team scenario looks like toast and don’t be surprised if Folsom can knock off Del Oro.
If Del Oro does go 10-0, it will be the No. 1 seed. If it doesn’t, then SM probably is the No. 1 seed.
Quit getting all excited about one week of the rankings. These moves are looked at with big picture in mind.
Understandable. I understand the rationale, but seeing these teams play and having played the schedule SM has played compared to our NorCal brethren, I feel like our one loss drop was a little harsh. But at the end of the day, like u said “Big Picture” is the focus. Especially after being in the section final 4 the last two seasons. Hopefully one of these weeks, you can come out to an SM game and we can meet. At the end of day, I respect and appreciate everything you and media outlets like yours do for student athletes across the state and allow fans like myself a forum to discuss rankings etc. LoL #YEAROFTHERAM
