This is the place to go for a quick glance at the top teams in California and for some immediate analysis. Two made field goals in the closing seconds will impact next week’s rankings as Davis shocks No. 15 Elk Grove and Loyola of Los Angeles stuns No. 18 Bishop Amat. Plus, No. 9 Oaks Christian now knows what it feels like to score 60 points or more in a loss.
Here is a look at scores through Saturday night, Sept 24. Check the site on Monday for updated rankings.

1. Centennial (Corona) 4-1
Defeated Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) 49-32. The last two TDs by the Las Vegas area team came very late and not against starters. Liberty was unbeaten and one of its wins was on the road against Westlake of Austin, Texas (Drew Brees’ alma mater).
2. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 4-1
Defeated No. 7 St. Mary’s (Stockton) 55-16. The Braves were in a early hole against the Rams at 10-7, but got scores off of turnovers to lead 28-10 at halftime. It just got better from there.
3. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 5-0
Defeated Edison (Huntington Beach) 42-0. The Chargers also were 4-0 entering the game, but were down 35-0 at halftime to head coach Bruce Rollinson’s squad.
4. Mission Viejo 5-0
Defeated Redondo Union (Redondo Beach) 49-12. Head coach Bob Johnson took it easy in the second half against his alma mater after the Diablos were up 35-0 at the break.
5. Narbonne (Harbor City) 4-0
Defeated Paramount 37-0. Perhaps even better news for Gaucho fans was watching alum Troy Williams lead Utah past USC. A Gardena Serra team that Narbonne beat also knocked off state-ranked Chaminade on Friday.
6. De La Salle (Concord) 4-1
Defeated Antioch 28-21. The Spartans were not in quite as much trouble as they were in their last two games against Servite and Salt Lake East, but have been giving up too many big plays to opposing teams. Still, not a bad win considering Antioch looked capable of beating a lot of state-ranked teams.
7. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 4-1
LOST to No. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 55-16. Any chances the Rams had of realistically staying close were gone early when standout junior RB Dusty Frampton went out with an injury after his first carry.
8. Del Oro (Loomis) 5-0
Defeated Granite Bay 41-21. Combined with the St. Mary’s result, the Golden Eagles look like a lock to move up to No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin Section and to No. 2 in NorCal. Don’t laugh, though, DO fans because it may end up that St. John Bosco, Mater Dei and Corona Centennial are that much better this year than any teams in NorCal.
9. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 3-2
LOST to Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 70-62. We’ll be checking the state record list for most points scored in a regulation-game loss after this one. One highlight was soph Mycah Pittman scoring on a 99-yard TD pass from Matt Corral.
10. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 5-0
Defeated Liberty (Bakersfield) 49-7. This win came against the defending CIF Central Section D1 champions.
11. Chaminade (West Hills) 3-2
LOST to Serra (Gardena) 30-28. T.J. Pledger had a huge 47-yard TD run in third quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Serra’s losses have been to Narbonne and two from out-of-state so look for a huge bump for the Cavs next week.
12. Elk Grove 3-1
LOST to Davis 16-14. This is one of the biggest upsets in the SJS in recent years. Davis won it on Chris Johnson’s field goal in the closing seconds. This was a league game and the Thundering Herd have their second league game next week against 5-0 Grant.
13. St. Augustine (San Diego) 5-0
Defeated Eastlake (Chula Vista) 26-14. The eventual matchup with Cathedral Catholic keeps getting bigger and bigger. Note: Previous comment about SD power rankings deleted. Those actually haven’t started yet. Apologies.
14. St. Francis (Mountain View) 4-0
Defeated Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) 37-0. The Lancers face arch-rival Bellarmine in their next game at San Jose City College.
15. Monte Vista (Danville) 4-0
Defeated California (San Ramon) 27-24. Peyton Henry’s 28-yard field goal with one second left won it. CalHi also entered the game unbeaten so the close score was somewhat expected.
16. Calabasas 5-0
Defeated El Camino Real (Woodland Hills) 42-7. The Coyotes are No. 1 ranked in Division V in the Southern Section, which means their chances of winning a section title and a state title in D2 or D1-A are solid.
17. Pittsburg 5-0
Defeated Vacaville 42-31. Before the night, it was thought by many that the Pirates and Monte Vista might be good enough this season to challenge De La Salle in the NCS. That could still happen, but the scores for both were not that impressive.
18. (24) Bishop Amat (La Puente) 2-2*
LOST to Loyola (Los Angeles) 24-23. *Counting forfeit win, record is 3-2. Like No. 15 Elk Grove, the Lancers were stunned by a last-second field goal. In their case, Loyola’s Diego Cacho-Sousa made one from 49 yards out with no time on the clock to beat Amat 24-23.
19. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 4-1
Defeated M.L. King (Riverside) 44-14 on Thursday. Like the rest of the Trinity League, the Eagles are taking a bye next Friday.
20. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 4-1
Defeated Los Alamitos 45-35. This was another Thursday special and it was the second straight Thursday night win for the Lions.
21. Helix (La Mesa) 2-2
BYE. Did not play. The losses are to No. 10 Cathedral Catholic and Timpview of Utah with a win over No. 22 Clayton Valley.
22. Clayton Valley (Concord) 4-1
Defeated Deer Valley (Antioch) 47-0. That’s three straight easy wins for the Ugly Eagles after their lone loss to Helix.
23. Rancho Cucamonga 5-0
Defeated Citrus Hill 17-14. That might be a closer score than forecast, but Murrieta Valley’s win over No. 9 Oaks Christian will vault the Cougars next week since the beat Murrieta Valley the week before.
24. Servite (Anaheim) 3-2
Defeated Garfield (Los Angeles) 55-0. The Friars may take a rankings hit next week, however, due to Bishop Amat’s loss to Loyola.
25. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 2-2
Defeated Wilson (Long Beach) 32-7. Had mixed up bye dates on schedule earlier in weekend.

FYI, Liberty (Las Vegas) beat Westlake (Austin, Tx), not Allen.
Thanks. Fixing now.
