Hitting .557 with six homers and throwing out 16 runners trying to steal helped Seanna Jimenez of El Monte earn a spot in the annual San Gabriel Valley All-Star Game.

While it still wasn’t enough to enable the graduating senior to get up onto any of the Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams, Jimenez deserves extra credit for having the season she did while also being a single mom.
“As a freshman, she was the league MVP and was an All-CIF-SS selection,” said head coach Cesar Peralta. “She continued her excellent play her sophomore year, but took off her junior year off from softball after the birth of her daughter.”
Jimenez did not stay involved in any aspect of softball while she was pregnant and then after the birth. She decided to get back to the game for her senior year and not only was prolific at the plate but served as a positive influence on her teammates.
“Seanna successfully juggled the three extremely demanding roles of being a mother, a student, and an athlete, and excelled at all of them,” Peralta said. “Most importantly, with the support of her family, she is raising a bright and energetic daughter.
“She was a calm, steadying influence on all of the players who recognized the sacrifices she was making in order to be there. We had a remarkable season, and she was a major part of that.”
