Weekend State Top 25 Scoreboard

Corona Centennial vs. St. John Bosco monster gets set officially as both win CIFSS Pac-5 semifnals. It wasn’t like both them won on Friday, however, by monstrous margins. De La Salle shines as well with 42-point first quarter, while the biggest upset is in San Diego where unbeaten Mission Hills got swamped by St. Augustine. On Saturday, amazing game is played in Antioch among state-ranked teams with No. 12 Foothill outlasting the No. 13 Panthers 55-54.

1. De La Salle (Concord) 11-1
Defeated No. 20 Pittsburg 70-14. Quick TDs from Anthony Sweeney and Antoine Custer helped the Spartans get out to a hard-to-believe 42-0 lead in the first quarter. They’ll go for their 24th straight CIF North Coast Section title next week against unbeaten Foothill of Pleasanton, which advanced after winning a remarkable 55-54 shootout over Antioch.

2. Centennial (Corona) 13-0
Defeated No. 7 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 42-36. It was the closest call of the season for the Huskies, although they were ahead 42-16 in the second half of the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 semifinal. Still, it took an onside kick recovery with 1:38 left for the win to get sealed.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 13-0
Defeated No. 8 Bishop Amat (La Puente) 63-10. All of the previous running clock wins by the Braves pale in comparison to this one. Amat’s two losses were by three points each to Mater Dei and Serra (Gardena) and the Lancers had just knocked off an 11-0 team (Oaks Christian). If they weren’t playing Centennial next in a monster CIFSS Pac-5 final next Saturday at Angels Stadium a rankings switch would be in order.

4. Folsom 13-0
Defeated St. Mary’s (Stockton) 56-49. A 56-yard TD pass by Jake Jeffrey and a four-yard TD run by Tre Green lifted the Bulldogs past the Rams, who led 42-35 entering the fourth quarter. Folsom now takes a state-best 29-game win streak into the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 final next Saturday vs. No. 6 Elk Grove.

5. Mission Viejo 13-0
Defeated Chino Hills 56-21. Senior QB Brock Johnson passed for seven touchdowns, four to Austin Osborne, as the Diablos stretched their win streak to 23 by topping the Huskies in the CIFSS West Valley Division semifinals.

6. Elk Grove 13-0
Defeated No. 24 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 30-18. It took Ryan Robards 40 carries to get over 200 yards (we had him unofficially with 215) so head coach Chris Nixon relied more on the defense and some timely passes from Jayden Machado to beat the Trojans and advance to the SJS D1 final opposite No. 4 Folsom. 7. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 10-3
LOST to No. 2 Centennial (Corona) 42-36. Brandon LaMarche plowed into the end zone on a 1-yard run with 1:38 left to give Mater Dei a chance to steal one from the Huskies in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs. The comeback from a 42-16 deficit was highlighted by an 80-yard TD reception from Andre Collins.

8. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 10-3
LOST to No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 63-10. The Lancers obviously kept up and then some offensively in last week’s scorefest vs. Oaks Christian, but giving up three defensive touchdowns turned the CIFSS Pac-5 semifinal into a rout.

9. Clayton Valley (Concord) 11-1
Defeated Granada (Livermore) 36-6. It was shockingly only a 6-6 tie at halftime of this NCS Division II matchup. The TD was not given up by the Uglies’ defense, however, and the offense woke up in the second half.

10. Mission Hills (San Marcos) 11-1
LOST to St. Augustine (San Diego) 48-14. The shocks came early and often to the Grizzlies, who couldn’t stop the run and made too many mistakes in suffering the CIF San Diego Section Open Division defeat.

11. Helix (La Mesa) 10-1
Defeated Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 42-14. Head coach Troy Starr’s team will now play St. Augustine next week in the CIF San Diego Section Open Division. Most had Helix as the team to beat in the preseason and the Highlanders are looking the part in the postseason.

12. Foothill (Pleasanton) 12-0
Defeated No. 13 Antioch 55-54 on Saturday. The Falcons didn’t seem too happy about being seeded behind the Panthers in the NCS D1 playoffs. For recap of this game, CLICK HERE.

13. Antioch 11-1
LOST to No. 12 Foothill (Pleasanton) 55-54 on Saturday. Coaches told the players that now they know why it’s a game of inches. With standout RB Najee Harris back next year, it’s hard to imagine the Panthers not being at least this explosive once again. For recap, CLICK HERE.

14. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 8-2**
**Season complete and record does not include forfeits. The Jackrabbits and their head-to-head win over Narbonne will likely remain in the state rankings until the end.

15. Narbonne (Harbor City) 11-2
Defeated Dorsey (Los Angeles) 42-0. The Gauchos, as expected, breezed past the Dons in the CIF L.A. City Section Division I semifinals. They are playing Crenshaw (9-4) in the title game next Friday at Cerritos College.

16. Bellarmine (San Jose) 11-1
Defeated San Benito (Hollister) 40-7. Antonio Garcia scored three times in the second quarter as the Bells advance in the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division I playoffs. They will play Milpitas and with a big win could go in front of Clayton Valley in the NorCal pecking order.

17. Serra (Gardena) 9-3
Did not play. Season complete. Loss was to No. 7 Mater Dei 28-27 in CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals.

18. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 11-1
Did not play. Season complete. Loss was to No. 8 Bishop Amat 61-40 in CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals.

19. Camarillo 13-0
Defeated Bishop Diego (Santa Barbara) 54-28. Soph QB Jake Moss hit on 17 of 21 passes for 273 yards and three TDs in his first start. Senior Jake Constantine should be back at QB for next Friday’s CIFSS Northern Division final vs. Thousand Oaks.

20. Pittsburg 10-3
LOST to No. 1 De La Salle (Concord) 70-14. As soon as the Spartans lifted their first-string defense in the NCS D1 semifinal, Pitt finally scored on a 63-yard run by Montaz Johnson. By then, though, the outcome was long over.

21. La Habra 12-1
Defeated Villa Park 42-21. With the win, the Highlanders advanced to the CIFSS Southwest Division championship opposite San Clemente. Villa Park came in at 12-0 and the score was tied 21-21 at halftime.

22. Ridgeview (Bakersfield) 12-0
Defeated Sunnyside (Fresno) 56-16. The Wolf Pack, who have a head-to-head win over Central Section Division I finalist Liberty of Bakersfield, advanced to the section D1 title game where they will play 10-2 Lemoore.

23. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 12-1
Defeated Rancho Cucamonga 62-56 in five overtimes. Cole Dubots won it finally on a TD run. The Broncos also earned their seventh straight trip to a CIFSS final. They’re in the West Valley Division final for the second straight year vs. Mission Viejo.

24. Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 10-3
LOST to No. 6 Elk Grove 30-18. The Trojans had their chances after a TD pass by Ian Book in the third quarter made the score 16-10 and then they even got the ball back. That’s as close as they got, however, in suffering the loss in the SJS D1 semifinals. For recap, CLICK HERE.

25. Calabasas 12-1
Defeated Redondo (Redondo Beach) 41-17. We saw one highlight of junior QB Tristan Gebbia scoring on a long run. Junior WR/DB Darnay Holmes also blocked a field goal, then scooped it up and ran for a TD. The Coyotes play defending champion Palos Verdes (PV Estates) next in the CIFSS Western Division playoffs.
