Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five closest games played by CIF Sac-Joaquin Section schools in matchups against legendary Concord De La Salle, according to CalHiSports.com.It was done after Loomis Del Oro lost to the Spartans last Friday 41-3.
Here is what that countdown revealed:
1. 21-13 vs. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 2012
This is the only one-possession game any team from the section has ever played against the Spartans.
2. 35-25 vs. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 1995
This also was one of the closest anybody ever got to De La Salle during its national record 151-game win streak.
3. 41-28 vs. Napa 1989
Both Napa and Fairfield played DLS several times in the 1980s.
4. 14-0 vs. Benicia 1979
This was one of the first wins in the first season of legendary DLS head coach Bob Ladouceur.
5. 35-21 vs. Merced 1991
The Bears won the Sac-Joaquin Section title the year before but DLS had receiver Amani Toomer.
Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be the top five single-game rushing performances in Sac-Joaquin Section history, a list that has actually added two new names from just this season. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region. Thanks to Jim and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
