Vallejo’s Byron Thomas gets his first career game of more than 100 yards rushing, but it’s a doozy — 467 yards and four TDs – in a high-scoring loss to Fairfield. One other RB hit 400 yards or more in a loss while another reached over that barrier in a win. It was also another huge night for Antioch’s Najee Harris, but Pittsburg’s Jordan Parker says “Not so fast, my friend.” Parker also happens to be one of the state’s best players and showed it in his game, too.
Note: We will collect totals from MaxPreps, newspapers, tweets and from those sent in to us. Matt Amrhein (Damien, La Verne)
He had a great all-around kicking game when the Spartans topped Etiwanda 44-20. As a place-kicker, Amrheim nailed 3-of-3 on field goal attempts and was 5-for-5 on PATs. He’s actually now 7-of-7 on field goals for the season. In the same game, Amrhein also had 48-yard punt.
Eduardo Andrade (Wilcox, Santa Clara)
He was one of two players in the state last week to rush for over 400 yards during a loss as he ran for 401 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries during a 42-34 loss to Milpitas.
Trent Banner & Patrick Blake (Foothill, Palo Cedro)
Banner to Blake was a common call to hear last week during a 42-35 loss to Shasta of Redding. Banner attempted a school record 49 pass attempts and completed 24 of them for 345 yards and four touchdowns. Blake finished with 15 catches for 252 yards and four touchdowns, which is reportedly good for the third most receptions in a game in CIF Northern Section history. Deensively, Blake also had his sixth interception of the year
Eric Barriere (La Habra)
It’s an Orange County record of Barriere with seven TD passes in the first half (he also tied the county record for TD passes in a game) of the Highlanders’ 62-13 romp past Fullerton. He also ended 21 of 31 for 350 yards.
Grant Bunker & Eddie Leonard (Westlake, Westlake Village)
Bunker connected on 24 of 39 passes for 328 yards and three TDs when Westlake edged Moorpark 25-21. Leonard was a standout on defense with 11 tackles (two for a loss) plus a forced fumble.
Lavante Bushnell (Stagg, Stockton)
The Delta Kings have now won three straight as he passed for 221 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for 47 yards and a score during a 47-0 home win over Bear Creek of Stockton.
Ryan Case (Immanuel, Reedley)
He scored four touchdowns, including one on a 96-yard kickoff return that is tied for second longest in school history, as the Raiders bounced back from their first loss to beat Farmersville 55-3. Case also scored on a 1-yard run, 7-yard pass reception and 41-yard pass interception.
Jake Constantine (Camarillo)
His play at QB has been superb for the unbeaten Scorpions. In a 49-17 win last Friday vs. Newbury Park, Constantine completed 19 of 26 passes for 357 yards and four TDs. He threw two TDs each to teammates Francisco Tostado and Elijah Alexander.
Ramar Crump (Kennedy, Sacramento)
Sending Laguna Creek’s quarterback crumpling to the ground, he finished with four sacks during a 28-6 win by the Cougars over the Cardinals.
Quentin Davis (St. John Bosco, Bellflower)
Even against quality opponents, the Braves continue to win in blowout fashion and Davis continues to shine. The senior QB passed for 311 yards and five touchdowns during a 60-7 win over JSerra Catholic of San Juan Capistrano.
Casey DeMello (Valley Christian, Roseville)
Former Sacramento Bee writer Ben Bodding let us know about this one since his granddaughter is a cheerleader at VCA. In a 68-58 loss to Woodland Christian from last Saturday, DeMello completed 38 of 67 passes for 514 yards and seven TDs. Going over 500 obviously is high enough for the Cal-Hi Sports state record book, but there are several totals from Folsom QBs that are higher regarding Sac-Joaquin Section records. Grant Woodside was DeMello’s leading target as he caught 15 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns while Tyler Stoever caught 12 passes for 151 yards and five scores.
Jacob Fimbres (Sonora, La Habra)
Another week and another big rushing performance for Fimbres. He rushed for 320 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries during a 41-26 win over Troy of Fullerton. It was his second game this season rushing for over 300 yards and he now has 1,547 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Austin Garber (Paradise)
We often see some big passing performances in losses but this week seemed to be the week that some big-time rushing performances came in losses and Garber’s was one of them. He rushed for 329 yards and six touchdowns on 20 carries during a 62-61 overtime loss to Enterprise of Redding.
Jake Garcia (Biggs)
One of several to break the 400-yard rushing mark in a game last week, Garcia’s big game came during a 76-27 win over Foresthill. He rushed for 402 yards and six touchdowns on 18 carries.
Jacob Gasser (Los Alamitos)
After starting the season 2-0, the Griffins had lost five straight before finally getting their third win of the season last week 49-0 over Newport Harbor of Newport Beach. Gasser caught four passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns.
Max Gilliam (Thousand Oaks)
The Cal commit did it all during the Lancers’ 49-35 triumph against Royal of Simi Valley. With his arm, he completed 20 of 26 for 316 yards and four TDs. With his legs, he rushed 14 times for 109 yards and one TD. Gilliam also had an interception playing defense. Teammate Kevin Howell also caught six balls for 173 yards and three scores.
Mike Gomez (West Covina)
Helping the Bulldogs climb into second-place in the Hacienda League, Gomez rushed for 234 yards and scored three times in a 21-7 win vs. Chino. Gomez scored on runs of 3, 58 and 10 yards.
Najee Harris (Antioch)
Nearing 2,000 yards rushing on the year, Harris carried the ball 28 times for 360 yards and six touchdowns during a 55-37 win over Liberty of Brentwood. Now with 1,844 rushing yards on the season, it was the second time he broke the 300-yard mark in a game this season. His season best so far is 396 yards from early this season against Milpitas.
Malik Henry (Long Beach Poly)
In the first complete game as the starting QB for the Jackrabbits, the Florida State recruit and transfer who played last year at Westlake (Westlake Village) hit on 22 of 33 passes for 333 yards and four TDs as Poly beat Lakewood 35-21.
Adam Herrera (Los Banos)
Not very often do you see a quarterback return a kickoff back for a touchdown but that happened last week during the Tigers 53-7 win over Livingston. Herrera returned a kickoff back for six points, passed for 186 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a touchdown.
Ray Jackson III (Clayton Valley, Concord)
If head coach Tim Murphy can keep Jackson fresh for the playoffs, he could have some monster games for the Ugly Eagles. He got to play well into the second half in last week’s Claycord Cup rivalry contest with Concord and ended with 295 yards rushing and five TDs in a 42-22 Clayton Valley win. Jackson scored on runs of 22, 50, 81, 9 and 39 yards.
Dontye James (Silver Creek, San Jose)
In a 42-0 win by the 6-1 Raiders over winless Evergreen Valley of San Jose, James got the house jumpin’ with 10 carries for 265 yards and three TDs.
Ryan Jenkins (St. Mary’s, Berkeley)
There were several stat standouts when the Panthers beat Pinole Valley of Pinole 35-13 last Saturday. Jenkins did the most with 18 completions in 27 attempts for 321 yards and three TDs. Tamarick Pierce also had 209 yards rushing with a 98-yard TD while Cameron James caught 12 passes for 194 yards.
Akil Jones (Valley Christian, San Jose)
We couldn’t pick Jones as a NorCal Defensive POW last week because he already has gotten that honor. Still, his total of five sacks and a fumble recovery in VC’s 27-7 win vs. Archbishop Mitty normally would be enough. Jones has committed to Colorado.
Matt Kahaian (Fowler)
The senior had an overall nice game in a 56-18 win over Minarets of O’Neals. He passed for 285 yards on 21 of 27 with three touchdowns and rushed for 50 yards on 12 carries and scored two times.
Leo Lambert (Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks)
Behind Lambert’s heroics, the Knights hope they turned around their season in a 63-35 victory over Crespi of Encino. Lambert carried 17 times for 260 yards and three TDs and he also caught three passes for 78 yards and two additional scores.
Jordan Leonard (Brethren Christian, Huntington Beach)
The Warriors saw their hopes of an undefeated season come to an end with a 34-31 loss to St. Margaret’s of San Juan Capistrano, but their junior running back rushed for 254 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.
Michael Lawson (Patterson)
Making sure his senior night would be one to remember, he rushed for five touchdowns and 145 yards on seven carries while also returning a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in a 60-42 win by the unbeaten Tigers over Pacheco of Los Banos.
Austin Martins (Orestimba, Newman)
With the game tied at 14-14 after one quarter, the Warriors and their sporty running back drove away from Le Grand to pick up a 60-20 win to remain undefeated. Martins rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries.
Jacob Naschke (Woodland Christian, Woodland)
When we see a 68-58 final score like the win by the Cardinals over Valley Christian of Roseville last week, we assume that there will be some big time performances and we weren’t disappointed. Naschke rushed for 341 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries to off-set the big passing totals of Valley Christian.
Jose Olvera (Los Amigos, Garden Grove)
Starting the season 0-5, the Lobos have turned things around and now have three straight wins after a 55-52 win over La Quinta of Westminster in three overtimes. Olvera carried the ball 36 times for 282 yards and six touchdowns.
Anthony Onsurez (Stockdale, Bakersfield)
Nearly putting up identical numbers passing and rushing during a 24-20 win over Frontier of Bakersfield, he passed for 152 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 145 yards and two scores.
Jordan Parker (Pittsburg)
Last year’s Contra Costa Times East Bay Defensive Player of the Year notched a pick six from 35 yards out and scored on a 92-yard kickoff return to help the Pirates beat Heritage of Brentwood, 55-21. In the same game, Parker also had three deflected passes and caught three passes for 118 yards and one TD.
Alema Pilimai (Tustin)
Named by OC Varsity as its defensive player of the week, this Utah committed senior linebacker had nine tackles and two interceptions for the Tillers, one of which he returned 76 yards for a touchdown, during a 35-15 win over Pacifica of Garden Grove in Empire League play.
Michael Pittman (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village)
Sophomore QB Matt Corral looked Pittman’s way early and often during a 48-23 win by the Lions over St. Bonaventure of Ventura. Pittman caught seven passes for 211 yards and a touchdown.
Ryan Robards (Elk Grove)
Now up to 31 total touchdowns on the year, Robards rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass and kicked a 47-yard field goal during a 31-20 win over Monterey Trail of Elk Grove.
D’Marcus Ross (Capital Christian, Sacramento)
The Cougars scored in almost every way possible during a 55-6 win over Natomas as Ross returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown and returned a kickoff 85 yards for six points. Teammate Julian Leslie also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score.
Sterling Salguero (Birmingham, Lake Balboa)
No need to look for a stamp to make sure his performance was high quality in a 29-26 win by the Patriots over Taft of Woodland Hills. Salguero rushed for 370 yards and three touchdowns on an eye popping 46 carries. “I’m tired, man, just looking to go to sleep after that,” he told the Los Angeles Daily News.
Jack Sears (San Clemente)
In limited action, Sears did some shopping for touchdowns when the Tritons crushed Laguna Hills 59-0. He finished with five touchdown passes and also rushed for two scores.
Trey Semien (Clovis East, Clovis)
The senior QB passed for a season high of 359 yards on 23 of 34 and two touchdowns in a 39-26 loss to Clovis West. Sophomore Marcus Washington also added two touchdowns on 26 carries for 141 yards.
Rashid Shadeed (Mt. Carmel, San Diego)
In a 45-20 loss to Rancho Bernardo of San Diego, Shadeed put on a show at wide receiver. He ended with 10 receptions for 220 yards and three TDs.
Nick Shanks (St. Margaret’s, SJ Capistrano)
He had a great game when the Tartans outlasted previously unbeaten Brethren Christian of Huntington Beach 34-31 in a matchup of D5 state-ranked teams. Shanks caught 10 passes for 230 yards and one TD, threw an 8-yard TD pass and had three tackles on defense.
Garrick Smigelski (Woodland)
Making sure the Wolves would get their second win of the season, he intercepted two passes in the game’s final 80 seconds and returned one of the two for a touchdown in a 27-14 win over River City of Sacramento 27-14.
Kaylor Sullivan (Fort Bragg)
We’re sure glad the Timberwolves make sure we get their totals. They were out-wordly again last week when they beat Willits 81-0. Most of the scoring was actually in the second quarter with 53 points. That’s a total that is third-highest in state history and came close to the record of 58 set in 1999 by Vasquez of Acton in a 86-0 win vs. Frazier Mountain. Sullivan was the ringleader once again, going 35 of 45 for 536 yards and eight TDs. It’s his second 500-yard game of the season and put him over 3,000. He did not play for most of the second half. WR Lucas Triplett also went over 1,000 yards receiving for the season with nine for 123 and one TD.
Daniel Texeira (Hilmar)
In a game that took overtime for the Yellowjackets to get the 43-42 road win over Hughson, their senior quarterback was stellar. He passed for 279 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 141 yards and one score. Alex Chavez also caught 11 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
Byron Thomas (Vallejo)
This stat star submission by reporter Matt O’Donnell of the Vallejo Times-Herald is one of the best of the season. Thomas, a junior who also plays DB for the Red Hawks, had not even had a 100-yard game as a running back prior to last Friday in a 45-42 loss to Fairfield. In that game, however, he exploded for a reported state single game high of 467 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns. Isaiah Tenette from Highlands of North Highlands, who had 465 yards in one game, had the previous state lead in that category for this season. Thomas’ single-game total also is high enough to get his name into the state record book. We’ll now be watching this junior for sure heading into the next recruiting window.
Tyler Vaughns (Bishop Amat, La Puente)
The All-American wideout sure played like that during a 30-22 triumph over Chaminade of West Hills. Vaughns caught 11 passes for 198 yards and one TD and also had a 69-yard punt return plus an interception while playing on defense.
Mikey Vierra (Argonaut, Jackson)
Linden fans weren’t able to see their team win at home for the first time this season as Vierra rushed for 270 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-27 win for the Mustangs.

Sean Kuenzinger set the single game pass record against Central high school in Fresno Ca for 425 pass yards two touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. He just beat the school single game touchdown passes against Clovis North for 6 tds and 270 yds passing.
The 6 TD game will be written up later this week. Very efficient performance.
Thank you Mr Tennis, this young man has worked hard for his team’s season.
