Among this week’s best single-game outings is a rare section record tie for rushing yards by Rancho Buena Vista’s Dominic Taylor. Also highlighted are Chatsworth’s Tyger Goslin, Newbury Park’s Cameron Rising (again) and Bryson Bolin of San Marcos. But considering the opposition, of course, the best probably was from Gardena Serra’s Khalil Tate.

Kashmeir Allen (Tulare)
A sophomore, Allen took over the rushing duties when star Romello Harris broke his finger in the first quarter playing defense. Allen didn’t miss a beat. He took the ball 18 times for 321 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 45-19 win over Kingsburg.
Kobie Beltram (Antioch)
The three-year starter only had five tackles in the Panthers’ 54-14 win vs. Rancho Cotate of Rohnert Park, but he did force a fumble that he recovered and he set a new school record with his 253rd tackle. As he explained afterward to Chace Bryson of SportStars Magazine, his older brother previous held that record and another older brother had it before that.
Bryson Bolin (San Marcos)
This junior QB racked up huge totals in his team’s 42-0 win against Fallbrook. He completed 23 of 31 passes for 440 yards and six touchdowns. Bolin’s top target was Terrell Burgess, who caught five balls for 171 yards and three scores. The team improved to 3-1 with its only loss to Oceanside.
Ian Book (Oak Ridge, El Dorado Hills)
The story of the Trojans’ season will not have an undefeated ending as they lost their first game of the season to Reed of Nevada by a 54-42 final score despite this Notre Dame-bound signal caller completing 24 of his 31 pass attempts for 402 yards and five touchdowns.

Josh Boyd (West, Bakersfield)
He put on a show by scoring four touchdowns on a 60-yard interception, 70-yard Punt return and two touchdown catches in a 38-13 triumph over winless Foothill of Bakersfield.
Osai Brown & Derrion Grim (McNair, Stockton)
Every week it’ll probably be a shootout style contest for these two. Last week’s was a 62-55 win vs. Modesto Christian and both put up more big totals. Brown went 13 of 19 passing for 327 yards and a pair of scores to go with eight carries for 72 yards and three TDs rushing. Grim caught seven passes for 217 yards and two TDs. That put his season TD catch total at 15 after just four weeks.
Hunter Calton (Escalon)
Sparked by a 59-yard TD early in the game, Calton finished with 279 yards rushing on just 14 carries to lead the Cougars past Liberty Ranch of Galt 35-14. He later scored on bursts of 29 and 79 yards as Escalon improved to 3-1.
Kyle Catanese (Shasta, Redding)
Leading the 4-0 Wolves to a 51-22 win over West Valley of Cottonwood, he passed for five touchdowns and 245 yards. Catanese completed 8 of his 17 pass attempts while also rushing for a score. During the team’s first three wins, he had passed for a total of four touchdowns.
Blake Culbert (Rancho Alamitos, Garden Grove)
He completed 14 of his 26 pass attempts for 314 yards and five touchdowns as the Vaqueros beat Anaheim 39-27. Teammate Joe Navar caught seven passes for 183 yards and one score.
Jake Dunniway (St. Mary’s, Stockton)
The Rams (2-1 with loss to Central Catholic) may have found a QB with what the junior did during last week’s 47-23 victory over St. Ignatius of San Francisco. Dunniway went 17 of 22 through the air for 307 yards and five TDs. Another junior, Dewey Cotton, caught eight passes for 161 yards and three of the scores.
Tyger Goslin (Chatsworth)
The Lions of Fairfax were no match for this Tyger in a 62-49 victory for the Chancellors. Goslin hit on 19 of 28 passes for 308 yards and seven TDs.
Joey Harman (Redlands East Valley, Redlands)
Averaging just over 10 yards per carry, he rushed for 262 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries as the Wildcats went on the road and defeated Rancho Verde of Moreno Valley 38-34.
Matt Hernandez (Vasquez, Action)
The senior DB has been reported with five interceptions two weeks ago when Vasquez topped Rosamond 54-6. That would be the single-game high in the state so far this season, but will need additional confirmation to get into the state record book.
Freddy Holly (Norte Vista, Riverside)
In a 65-28 destruction of Hesperia, Holly was sensational with 22 carries for 284 yards rushing and five TDs. Norte Vista’s Devenere Crenshaw added 222 yards rushing, 57 receiving and scored three times.
Sean Kuenzinger (Clovis)
He made his kin sing his praises after he passed for a career high of five touchdowns on 16 completions in 30 attempts for 326 yards in a wild 49-42 win over visiting Stockdale. J.J. Wills of Clovis also had seven receptions for 167 yards for three touchdowns.

Michael Kyle (Pinole Valley, Pinole)
After only getting 45 yards rushing in his previous game, Kyle was turned loose by Pinole Valley head coach Luke Bodwin in a 45-28 victory vs. Hayward. Kyle carried 19 times and erupted for 306 yards and four TDs.
Jordan Leonard (Brethren Christian, Huntington Beach)
The Warriors improved to 4-0 behind another big rushing performance by this junior as he rushed for 272 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries during a 42-33 win over Capistrano Valley Christian of San Juan Capistrano.
Spencer Moyer (West Hills, Santee)
Moyer was the destroyer for the West Hills offense in its 42-22 victory against La Jolla. As a passer, the senior QB went 14 of 23 for 236 yards and three scores. He also rushed for 115 yards and scored twice.
Erik Ornduff (Live Oak, Morgan Hill)
It wasn’t much of a crosstown rivalry game between the 3-0 Acorns and nearby Sobrato, mostly due to Ornduff’s work as a QB. The senior led Live Oak in its 65-0 romp by hitting on 11 of 14 passes for 251 yards and four TDs. He also scored a rushing TD and was named the San Jose Mercury-News Santa Clara County athlete of the week.
Tyler Reish (Moorpark)
While his 212 rushing yards on 33 carries wasn’t a game-high, it did help his side get the 41-38 overtime win over Huntington Beach. Reish also scored five touchdowns, including the game-winner.
Evan Rios (Madera)
One of the state’s top kickers, Rios booted a 43-yard field goal to seal the win over winless Hoover of Fresno 30-27. Evan also kicked two other field goals during the game that measured 29 and 37 yards plus three PATs. He also is the reported state leader with eight for the season (which is one more than the leader listed on MaxPreps).
Cameron Rising (Newbury Park)
Just a sophomore, Rising created headlines again when he followed up his 388-yard and six-touchdown performance against Agoura from the week before with another monster outing in a 56-12 win over Dos Pueblos of Goleta. Rising completed 16 of his 24 pass attempts for 428 yards and seven touchdowns. Through four games, he has passed for 1,260 yards and 19 touchdowns with just one interception. Andrew Noble was his leading receiver with four catches for 185 yards and three scores.
Gonzalo Rodriguez (Golden West, Visalia)
He set a school record by scoring six touchdowns on runs of 1, 4, 4, 1, 17 and 18 yards and rushed for a career high of 208 yards on 32 carries as the Trailblazers edged Reedley 43-34. Argeny Cruz of Reedley also set a school record by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns that measured 91 and 87 yards.
Sam Serra (Archbishop Mitty, San Jose)
It was a saintly performance by Serra, helping the Monarchs move to 3-0 on the season with a 52-28 win over Palo Alto. Serra passed for four touchdowns while also rushing for a score. When Mitty plays Serra of San Mateo on Oct. 17, things could get confusing.
Hunter Simmons (Huntington Beach)
In a game that saw multiple state stat star worthy performances, the Oilers ended up losing by a 41-38 final score to Moorpark despite Simmons rushing for 272 yards and one touchdown on 39 carries. He also completed his lone pass attempt for a 51-yard touchdown.
Kaylor Sullivan & Lucas Triplett (Fort Bragg)
In a 53-6 win by Fort Bragg over Clear Lake 53-6 with a running clock halfway in the third quarter, Sullivan completed 33 of 46 passes for 506 yards and six touchdowns. He had one interception, one TD rushing and 391 of the yards came in the first half. Triplett had 16 receptions for 232 yards and three TDs (all of which came in the first half). Sullivan’s yardage and completions are new school records. He also became the school’s all-time leader in touchdown passes during the game and all-time leader in passing yards three games ago. Triplett’s receptions and yardage are new school records as well. He also became the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards during the game.
Khalil Tate (Serra, Gardena)
The Cavaliers’ matchup against Narbonne of Harbor City was a battle between two teams ranked in the top 15 of our state rankings as Tate’s Cavaliers got the 41-40 win in overtime. Tate clearly was the standout of the game in which there were possibly a dozen or more D1 college prospects on the field. The University of Arizona commit passed for 195 yards and rushed for 285 yards and six touchdowns.
Dominic Taylor (Rancho Buena Vista, Vista)
Ties in a section or state record book for a category like single game rushing are tough to have because it’s just a yard here or there. They do exist, however, and the San Diego Union-Tribune reported one for the San Diego Section last week when Taylor piled up 436 yards on 33 carries and scored three times in a 29-24 loss to Steele Canyon of Spring Valley. It tied the section mark of 436 first set in 2009 by Ken James from Mt. Carmel of San Diego. Taylor also is now No. 2 on the single-game list in the state for this season.
Zach Taylor & Elijah Gates (Buena Park)
Coming from behind to force overtime where the Coyotes ended up defeating Esperanza of Anaheim 42-35 in double overtime, Taylor passed for 370 yards and five touchdowns with Gates the leading target with six receptions for 168 yards and three scores.
Daevon Vigilant (Downey)
The Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Player of the Week caught a 54-yard pass during the Vikings’ 41-28 win over Millikan of Long Beach but it was rushing the ball where he had the biggest impact. Vigilant turned his 19 carries into 311 yards and four touchdowns
