Of the two biggest games this weekend, one happened on Thursday while the other took place Saturday. In Friday’s games, No. 14 Crespi of Encino was beaten by Orange Lutheran while No. 13 Vista Murrieta and No. 16 Bellarmine of San Jose looked great in season openers. No. 5 Folsom also won on Saturday.

De La Salle RB Andrew Hernandez is returning standout from 2014 squad.
1. De La Salle (Concord) 1-1
Defeated Serra (San Mateo) 37-21. Converting on early turnovers forced by the defense, the Spartans led 35-7 at halftime. Serra doing much better in the second half probably will be what the coaches will focus on next week before the home opener vs. Servite of Anaheim.
2. Centennial (Corona) 2-0
Defeated Serra (Gardena) 52-13 on Saturday in Honor Bowl at Oceanside. For recap, CLICK HERE.
3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 2-0
Defeated Norwalk 67-7. This comes after 76-8 win in first game against La Mirada. Next week should be better competition in Oregon against Central Catholic of Portland.
4. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 2-0
Defeated Tesoro of Las Flores 35-14. Brandon LaMarche and the Monarchs’ ground game got it going again.
5. Folsom 2-0
Defeated Clovis North (Fresno) 42-25 on Saturday. QB Jake Jeffrey reportedly passed for 400 yards and four TDs and also scored twice on the ground.
6. Serra (Gardena) 1-1
Lost to No. 2 Centennial (Corona) 52-13 on Saturday in Honor Bowl at Oceanside. For recap, CLICK HERE.
7. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 2-0
Defeated No. 10 Narbonne of Harbor City 20-17 on Thursday night. QB Nolan McDonald provided the winning touchdown in the closing seconds with a touchdown run.
8. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 1-1
Defeated Servite of Anaheim 28-10. After losing in the first game to No. 4 Mater Dei, the Lancers won in their second matchup vs. a Trinity League opponent.
9. Grant (Sacramento) 2-0
Defeated Central of Fresno 55-7. The Pacers may score 50 or more in a lot of their games this season. Should be a good battle next Friday at Bullard of Fresno, which is 2-0.
10. Narbonne (Harbor City) 0-1
Lost to No. 7 Long Beach Poly 20-17. If you know the history of our rankings, losing in a game like that to a higher ranked opponent is not going to cost the Gauchos too many spots.
11. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 2-0
Defeated Santiago of Corona 59-14. It was another huge night for QB K.J. Costello and the Eagles’ offense.
12. Mission Viejo 3-0
Defeated Oak Hills of Hesperia 56-27. The next two games against La Habra and Norco also are setting up to be good ones.
13. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 1-0
Defeated Ballard of Seattle, Wash., 71-32. This one resembled a track meet, which is appropriate since the Broncos are the CIF state track champions.
14. Crespi (Encino) 1-1
Lost to Lutheran (Orange) 43-28. This is the highest ranked team from this week that’s going to drop more than a couple of position. Moving up the Lancers (who play De La Salle later this month) also is now a must.
15. Alemany (Mission Hills) 2-0
Defeated Colony (Ontario) 42-0. It was a big step up for Colony, last year’s CIFSS Central Division champions. Alemany also can now be in front of Crespi for sure. A few others already had it that way.
16. Bellarmine (San Jose) 1-0
Defeated Franklin (Elk Grove) 42-0. This is an eye-opening win since Franklin had a win over Clovis North in its first game. We’ll be there next Friday when the Bells travel to play Sac-Joaquin Section power Del Oro of Loomis.

17. Mission Hills (San Marcos) 2-0
Defeated Torrey Pines (San Diego) 23-0. The losing Falcons also were in the San Diego Section top 10 rankings so this was a solid win for the Grizzlies.
18. Del Oro (Loomis) 1-1
Lost to Punahou (Honolulu, Hawaii) 22-15. This was a game that was played at Cal’s Memorial Stadium on Friday. The Golden Eagles led almost the entire game and lost on a TD in the closing seconds.
19. Pittsburg 2-0
Defeated San Ramon Valley (Danville) 42-28. Playing a more than solid opponent with several key starters out, the Pirates showed resiliency and depth. For details, CLICK HERE.
20. Norco 2-0
Defeated Rancho Cucamonga 29-26. It was a come-from-behind win for the Cougars, who play No. 12 Mission Viejo in two weeks.
21. Oceanside 1-1
Lost to Eastside Catholic of Sammamish, Wash., 42-7. This was the second game of the Friday schedule at the Honor Bowl in Oceanside. Eastside was the 2014 Class 3A state champion in the Evergreen State.
22. Clovis 2-0
Defeated Lemoore 41-24. This was a matchup between the current No. 1 team in the CIF Central Section (Clovis) against last year’s section D2 champs (Lemoore).
23. Redlands East Valley (Redlands) 1-0
Defeated Chaminade (West Hills) 51-42. This was a huge win for the Wildcats because it was against a top-level CIFSS Pac-5 Division squad. Their only loss last year was to similar St. Bonaventure of Ventura.
24. Clayton Valley (Concord) 1-1
Defeated Tracy 35-0. After last week’s one-point loss to last year’s Sac-Joaquin Section D1 champ (Folsom), head coach Tim Murphy’s squad beat up on last year’s SJS D1 runner-up.
25. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 2-0
Defeated Chino Hills 42-14. So far, the only Trinity League team to lose a game has been Servite (which lost Friday to Bishop Amat).

Oceanside Pirates lost 49-13. They are all juniors with no varsity experience (except for 3 players) their top 2 seniors Isai Paopao and Marcus Lau-Young are out for the season. Oceanside will be good next year, this year under a new head coach and youth, they will have bumps, but will be improved by end of season.
