For us, it starts with Sunday’s Nike events for Northern California, which will be held at San Leandro’s Burrell Field and adjoining fields. Go inside for top players expected to attend and a lineup of features we’ll have in the next four to five weeks.
There are a lot of changes this year for Nike camp weekend in Northern California, which has traditionally been held on the third weekend of May.
The NorCal stop is one of many during the three-month Nike camp tour run by the Student Sports team out of its Torrance office.
This year, the official name is The Opening Oakland and instead of three separate events (combine, camp and Elite 11 QB regional) everything will be done in one day with a much smaller combine than has previously been held.
It’s all part of a strategy by camp organizers to provide more of a lead-in to the event that Nike is most excited about and that’s The Opening, which brings together an invited group of the very best high school players in the nation to its world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., in early July
