Congratulations to the following sophomore players for earning all-state recognition for the 2014 season from Cal-Hi Sports, which began these honors 36 years ago. The all-state honor teams for underclassmen (sophomores, juniors) are not intended as recruiting lists. We realize there are many talented younger players who will greatly improve in the coming months and may not have yet received the playing time needed to prove how good they are.

It didn't take long to notice when watching St. Mary's of Stockton that 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman Popo Aumavae is going to be a very good player. Photo: Mark Tennis.

Why are there no Long Snappers???

      Posted January 25, 2015 at 9:01 pm | Permalink

I have never seen any all-state team anywhere in the nation or any local team that has singled out a specific position for a long snapper. There’s no way to really quantify one other than go to a long-snapping web site and then try to figure out if any of those guys actually did well for their teams during the season. Sorry, don’t see us adding that one in the future and wouldn’t use one of the 30 spots for a long-snapper anyway.

How close was Andrew Tovar from Cathedral High School to making it? In 12 games he passed for over 3500 yards and 45 TDs.

Nationally Tovar was ranked 7th amongst all 10th grade QBs with Herrera slightly over him in yards by 46 with 5 less TDs and 3 more games. Andrew Tovar belongs on this team.

Mark, I am looking for information on Freshman & Sophomores mainly. I am looking for other info such as vertical, 40 speed, other measurables one can get at combines or the like. Does any of your paid subscriptions provide this information? If so I will join. If not, I will continue to enjoy the free version but would also like to ask you where I might find that type of information I am looking for on the underclassmen

      Keith,
Wish we did have 40 times, etc of top freshman & sophomores but we’d have to have our own combines probably to offer and way too expensive unless you have a big-time sponsor (like Nike). I see a handful of them at the Nike event in the Bay Area each year and I know there also are a handful that show up to the combine in SoCal. Those results are on the StudentSports.com website. Other than that, or for other events, don’t know.
