CIF STATE BOWL GAME DIVISIONS RANKINGS UPDATES
(12th rankings of the regular season)
DIVISION I SOUTH
1. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 11-1
2. Centennial (Corona) 10-2
3. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 11-1
4. Oceanside 11-0
5. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 9-3
6. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 10-2*
*Season complete.
DIVISION I NORTH
1. De La Salle (Concord) 11-0
2. Folsom 12-0
3. Grant (Sacramento) 12-0
4. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 11-1
5. Valley Christian (San Jose) 9-2
6. Foothill (Pleasanton) 9-2
DIVISION II SOUTH
1. Redlands East Valley (Redlands) 11-1
2. Heritage (Menifee) 12-0
3. Ridgeview (Bakersfield) 10-1
4. San Clemente 11-1
5. West (Torrance) 12-0
6. Poly (Riverside) 12-0
Note: Previous No. 1 St. Francis (La Canada) and No. 3 Corona del Mar were eliminated in CIF Southern Section divisional playoff games.
DIVISION II NORTH
1. Clayton Valley (Concord) 12-0
2. Concord 10-1*
3. Inderkum (Sacramento) 11-1
4. Enterprise (Redding) 9-1
5. Oakdale 11-1
Note: Inderkum has moved past Enterprise for the third spot, which is critical because No. 1 and No. 2 are likely playing each other for North Coast Section D2 title. Not only has Monterey Trail (Inderkum’s only loss by two points) made it to the Sac-Joaquin Section D1 semifinals but Rio Linda (a team Inderkum beat 62-21) was the team that knocked out previous No. 5 Sierra of Manteca 49-44.
*Does not include forfeit win.
DIVISION III SOUTH
1. El Capitan (Lakeside) 11-0
2. Newbury Park 10-2
3. Arroyo Grande 10-2
4. Atascadero 10-2
5. Paso Robles 11-1
Note: Teams No. 2 through No. 5 comprise the semifinalist teams in the CIFSS Northern Division. If El Cap continues to roll in San Diego, hard to see any other matchup for bowl game than Vaqueros vs. CIFSS Northern Division champ.
DIVISION III NORTH
1. Campolindo (Moraga) 12-0
2. Sutter 12-0
3. Aptos 10-1
4. Sonora 10-1
Note: Aptos posted 50-3 win over 10-0 Branham of San Jose in CCS Division III playoffs, gets 10-1 Burlingame next, followed possibly by St. Ignatius of San Francisco in the final (team that has a win over Stockton St. Mary’s). All of that is plenty for Mariners to get moved up to No. 3 this week. There is a chance Sonora could go back in front with a win over Central Catholic in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV final.
DIVISION IV SOUTH
1. Christian (El Cajon) 11-0
2. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 11-1
3. St. Margaret’s (SJ Capistrano) 12-0
DIVISION IV NORTH
1. Central Catholic (Modesto) 9-3
2. McClymonds (Oakland) 11-0*
3. Capital Christian (Sacramento) 12-0
Note: We are not counting McClymonds’ forfeit losses until the school’s appeal regarding the eligibility of a player is heard and a ruling is issued. That appeal took place on Nov. 12 and even if McClymonds doesn’t win the appeal the case still may not be over. Although the Warriors could still win the Oakland Section title and become eligible for the CIF D4 bowl game, section commissioners rarely vote for a team with forfeit losses (ask Vista Murrieta down south). According to sources, McClymonds is going to do all it can to regain the eligibility of that player, who is QB Kevin Davidson.

Do you think that an all Sac Jaquin D1 regional and Central Catholic being a very probable pick for D4 regional be a factor in selecting the D2 game? Enterprise should be in the conversation either way but that seams like its interesting to me. Also does the fact that as it stands now the CCS in rankings the doesnt have any teams in regionals. Does that make the Aptos or Sutter choice a tougher one?
Section commissioners have tended to spread around their votes in close decisions. Potentially, Enterprise vs. Inderkum and Sutter vs. Aptos is going to be close and they might not want to shut out a section. It’s not as if they’ve never voted for a Northern Section team, however. You just look at the teams in front of Inderkum and Aptos and in my opinion it’s just going to be hard for the Northern Section teams to win those arguments.
I agree but like I said just curious considering the arguments should be close, does the fact that the SJS would have 4 teams in and the NS or CCS would have zero, does that come into play or do they strictly pick on who they think the better team is, or better resume.
It’s a case by case basis and if three of the SJS teams are Folsom, Grant and Central Catholic no one is going to suggest that the SJS doesn’t get any more. What you are suggesting I think could only come into play, for example, if Enterprise doesn’t get in and here comes Sutter in D3 (which unlike Enterprise is unbeaten). The folks in the room at that point might be influenced to vote for Sutter for the reasons you are mentioning.
I can see dropping Serra from the list because they lost big to Los Gatos. Why is dropping a close OT game against a tough Bellarmine team reason to drop Milpitas?
They have to be behind Bellarmine, at least for this week, as Bellarmine is still playing. Milpitas can come back up if VC or Los Gatos wins CCS Open since it beat VC and LG earlier in the season and at that point can be in front of the Bells too.
Mark, I have seen St. Mary’s play this year and they are good and have a top quality program. But, how does a win over Rocklin (playing w/o key starters) and opponents avg. ranking #2852 (national) move them up from 50th to 21st in the state and to #4 on NorCal D1 bowl list. Maybe if they won SJS d2 this would make sense. What is your take, thanks
As big of a win that was over Rocklin (keep in mind that the Thunder were banged up against Folsom, but still gave the Bulldogs a good game), equally big was the win by Los Gatos over San Mateo Serra, since St. Mary’s has a win over LG. Two of them combined elevates SM… and deservedly so, in my opinion.
It’s not just beating Rocklin like that. It’s also Tracy beating Jesuit (SM has 20 pt win over Tracy) and its Los Gatos beating Serra (SM has win over Los Gatos). Plus, it’s what’s in front of them (playing Elk Grove, then perhaps Grant).
If Newbury Park gets the South D-III bid, they’ll be a school that would be D-I in a lot of other sections (they were even D-I last year within the SS). With over 2500 students, they’d be D-I even in the original CIF Bowl enrollment divisions. Last year, I believe Garden Grove with about 2400 students was a threat for a state D-III title. Just doesn’t seem right.
Newbury Park and the rest of the CIFSS Northern Division really should have been D2 South and not D3. As for the enrollment differentials, you’re going to have to get used to it. Yes, Garden Grove has around 2400 students but competitively that program looks correctly placed in D3 South. There are a lot of schools (private) with much lower enrollments that frankly would beat Garden Grove easily.
What about the West Valley Division Southern Section teams? What Division are they in?
They are D1 South. Highest ranked team is Upland, which has two losses and is behind a bunch of Pac-5 teams.
ridgeview bakersfield contenues there quest for a state bowl bid with there win tonight over san ger the only team that beat fresno edison ridgview and edison will be playing for section title next week
