With 1-2-3 rolling along, CIFSS Pac-5 winners Centennial of Corona, Long Beach Poly and Bishop Amat will shake up next week’s rankings. Previously unbeaten Milpitas also is taken out in the first round of the CCS Open Division.

1. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 11-1
Senior Clifford Simms was the individual standout in Bosco’s 48-7 win over Norco in the CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals. He rushed for three TDs and deflected a punt. The Braves haven’t lost to a California team since they fell to Long Beach Poly in a CIFSS semifinal in 2012 so that will be a rallying cry when those two meet again in this year’s semifinals next weekend.
2. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 11-0
This offense for the Spartans could be up there with among the best they’ve ever had, but all that of course will depend on the last game. DLS beat San Ramon Valley on Friday night 65-16 in the CIF North Coast Section D1 quarterfinals. Andrew Hernandez, Chris Vanderklught and Antoine Custer all scored twice in the first half.
3. FOLSOM 12-0
Speaking of offense, Folsom was up 42-0 at halftime and went on to beat Franklin of Elk Grove 56-13 in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I quarterfinals. Washington-bound Jake Browning had six TD passes and now has 70 for the season. The Bulldogs will play another Elk Grove team from Monterey Trail in next week’s semifinals.
4. JSERRA (SJ CAPISTRANO) 10-2
It’s been a historical season for the Lions but it ended due to a 24-17 loss to No. 11 Bishop Amat in the CIFSS Pac-5 Division quarterfinals. Since Amat still has three losses on its record, the loss for JSerra will drop the Lions down below the Lancers in next week’s rankings.
5. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 9-3
A 27-24 loss to No. 6 Centennial of Corona in the CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals ends the season for the Monarchs. Although they had beaten the Huskies earlier in the season, they also will have to drop in the rankings behind JSerra, which also lost on Friday. For RECAP, CLICK HERE.
6. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 10-2
It was a huge 27-24 win for the Huskies over No. 5 Mater Dei. It not only avenged an earlier 38-18 loss but after the loss of dynamic running back J.J. Taylor, who had to have an appendix taken out on Thursday morning. Centennial also lost Cal-bound WR Greyson Bankhead during the game with an injury, believed to be a broken collarbone. Remember that Centennial’s other loss was by one point to Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas. Results so far in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs, by the way, are breaking perfectly for Gorman in its bid to be the mythical national champion this season. For RECAP, CLICK HERE.
7. OCEANSIDE 11-0
Talk about consistency, the Pirates looked to be in championship form with a 38-0 win over Carlsbad in their opening game of the CIF San Diego Section Open Division. They earned their 21st straight trip to the section semifinals in the process. And what if Bishop Amat (with three losses) wins the CIFSS Pac-5 Division title? That’s one team a potentially perfect Pirates team could beat for the CIF Open Division bowl bid from the south.

8. LONG BEACH POLY (LONG BEACH) 11-1
Look for the Jackrabbits to jump to fifth in next week’s rankings after a 44-27 win over No. 10 Crespi. A 21-yard TD pass from Josh Love to Johnnie Rucker, then a 79-yard TD run by James Brooks helped them overcome a 21-13 deficit at halftime. Poly’s only loss is to No. 5 Corona Centennial (which the team could potentially avenge) and it will be playing No. 1 St. John Bosco next.
9. GRANT (SACRAMENTO) 12-0
Donovan Brown passed for five TDs and the defense had 12 sacks after 11 last week in a 63-21 steamrolling of Modesto Downey in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II bracket. The Pacers will play Vacaville next.
10. CRESPI (ENCINO) 9-2
The Celts converted a huge fourth down play in the first half for a TD and had all the momentum going their way against No. 8 Long Beach Poly in the CIFSS quarterfinals. They were blitzed in the second half, though, and lost 44-27.
11. BISHOP AMAT (LA PUENTE) 9-3
With junior Ryder Ruiz once again at the controls, the Lancers displayed balance on both sides of the ball in beating No. 4 JSerra 24-17. Amat will now have to travel out to the Inland Empire next week to take on No. 6 Corona Centennial.
12. SERRA (GARDENA) 8-3*
Season over. The Cavs lost to Corona Centennial in the first round of the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs.
13. MILPITAS 10-1
The Trojans lost to Bellarmine of San Jose 9-6 in overtime in the opening round of the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs. Curt Calomeni caught a fullback pass Troy Martig to deny Milpitas the possibility of a 13-0 season. Bellarmine came into the game after losing last week 28-14 to No. 20 Serra of San Mateo.
14. WESTLAKE (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 8-3*
Season over. The Warriors lost to No. 5 Mater Dei last week in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs.

15. UPLAND 10-2
Although Newhall Hart’s Trent Irwin broke the Cal-Hi Sports state career records for pass receptions and receiving yardage, the Highlanders had too many playmakers and too much depth and won 52-21. Upland plays next in the CIFSS West Valley Division semifinals against Vista Murrieta.
16. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SM) 6-5*
Season over. The Eagles lost last week to No. 10 Crespi in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs.
17. CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC (S.DIEGO) 10-1
All of the top four seeds in the CIF San Diego Section Open Division picked up wins as the No. 2 seeded Dons defeated Torrey Pines of San Diego 27-0 and will now play No. 3 seed Helix of La Mesa next week in the semifinals.
18. (20) MISSION VIEJO 10-2
Despite holding a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, it looked like the Diablos were headed for a loss to Rancho Cucamonga after allowing two straight touchdowns but they got an 18-yard touchdown pass from Brock Johnson to Steven Munoz on 4th and 8 with 1:07 left for a 38-35 win.
19. ST. FRANCIS (LA CANADA) 11-1
La Serna of Whittier ended the undefeated season for the Golden Knights with a 38-35 final score win. St. Francis, playing without No. 1 QB Jeremiah Martin, came from behind to take a 35-31 lead into the fourth quarter. La Serna, which has beaten top-level competition before (remember Westlake), just made more plays down the stretch.
20. SERRA (SAN MATEO) 7-4
The Padres got rolled Saturday 28-0 by 9-2 Los Gatos in the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs. After the way they beat Bellarmine just last week, don’t think anybody saw that Serra would lay an egg quite like this.
21. TESORO (SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO) 9-3
Leading 24-0 at halftime over Vista Murrieta of Murrieta, the Titans played a disastrous final half of football as their season came to an end after a 28-27 loss to the Broncos. Vista Murrieta notched the touchdown and game-winning PAT in the final seconds.
22. CLAYTON VALLEY (CONCORD) 12-0
Leading 42-0 at halftime over Montgomery of Santa Rosa, the game was in little doubt over the final two quarters as the Ugly Eagles advanced to the CIF NCS Division II semifinals with a 69-19 win.
23. VALLEY CHRISTIAN (SAN JOSE) 9-2
While not a surprise to us, the Warriors as the No. 6 seed in the CCS Open Division playoffs posted a 14-7 win over No. 3 seed Palma of Salinas. Collin Johnson had two touchdown catches, 83 and 36 yards, in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead at halftime, which they had until allowing a score in the fourth quarter.
24. EL CAPITAN (LAKESIDE) 11-0
After a first round bye, the top seeded Vaqueros defeated Mt. Carmel of San Diego 48-6 to advance to the CIF San Diego Section Division III semifinals where they will take on Brawley.
25. EDISON (FRESNO) 10-1
Leading Centennial of Bakersfield 21-0 at halftime, the Tigers got back-to-back touchdowns from A.J. Greeley to get the second half scoring underway with a 59-yard touchdown catch and then had an interception that he returned 80 yards for six points. Edison went on to win 42-0 and will play next week in the CIF Central Section Division I semifinals.

These are some of the best matchups I can remember both from the pac5
And the first yr of the S. D open division pretty much are top 4 and PAC 5 top 4.
There can be a rematch corona in title game vs SJB if they get there.
For S. D there could be first game for the Pirates vs Dons if they get there.
3 out of the four in open division have won state championships. Pirates 2 Dons 1 Hihglanders1
MH was in regional game but lost and the year the commitee got it wrong by picking a boring Edison to play cavaliers when the better matchup was obvious. Anyways I’m pumped for these youngsters these are great times for them the best of luck to all.
