The CCS Open Division pairings creates changes in the north for the bowl games and focuses more on what could be a very close decision for Division II. The rest of the bowl game rankings stay status quo. Newcomers to the State 25, meanwhile, are Tesoro, Valley Christian of San Jose and Edison of Fresno.

Both Enterprise and Inderkum were strongly considered for this week’s No. 3 ranking. It could flip if Vacaville (team that beat Enterprise) loses this week to Del Oro and if Monterey Trail (team that beat Inderkum) wins against Merced. It also could flip to the eventual Sac-Joaquin D3 champ if it’s Sierra of Manteca (might be able to avenge only loss) or Oakdale (also could possibly avenge only loss).

Note: We are not counting McClymonds’ forfeit losses until the school’s appeal regarding the eligibility of a player is heard and a ruling is issued. That appeal took place last week and even if McClymonds doesn’t win the appeal the case still may not be over. Although the Warriors could still win the Oakland Section title and become eligible for the CIF D4 bowl game, section commissioners rarely vote for a team with forfeit losses (ask Vista Murrieta down south). According to sources, McClymonds is going to do all it can to regain the eligibility of that player, who is QB Kevin Davidson.

The CCS Football bylaws – Section 6 (CIF Regional & State Bowl Entries)(http://www.cifccs.org/playoffs/football,%20new.html), allows for the “possibility” of having a “non-section champion” advance to the CIF Regional & State Bowl Games. (Los Gatos &/or SHP)
There are several key criteria (comparisons) to meet, but the bylaws do allow for a smaller enrollment school (i.e. D2 or D4), playing in the CCS Open Div., to be considered for Bowl games, in what would have been, their actual enrollment-based division [see sections: 6(B)(2)(b)].
“Open Division Semi-Finalists and First Round Consolations Winners will be eligible for consideration for advancement and consideration by the CIF Bowl Game Selection Committee as follows:”

According to 2014 CIF Regional Handbook, only Section Champions qualify for Regional Bowl Games. A selection committee will determine the top team from north and south and will play in the OPEN state championship.
I am not sure how this is calculated. Do teams that win the year before automatically get an invitation? Shouldn’t this be sorted out after CIF finals?
No, teams that win the year before are not automatically invited. The section commissioners look at head-to-head results, common opponents, strength of schedule and of course they consider a defending champion.
