Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Defensive Player of the Week
James Outman (Serra, San Mateo) Sr.
The Padres’ bruising 6-foot-2, 200-pound linebacker, team captain and two-spot star who has a scholarship to Sacramento State for baseball, exemplifies the kind of top producer on a state-ranked team that isn’t flashy but takes care of business on the gridiron.
The Padres’ trademark has always been a stingy defense and the past two weeks Outman has been its backbone. Serra’s leading tackler, who has almost twice as many tackles as the No. 2 tackler on the team, had 10 tackles (six solo) and a pass interecption last week in a 36-10 victory over Archbishop Riordan of San Francisco.
Two weeks ago against St. Francis of Mountain View, Outman had 11 tackles (seven solo) in a 14-2 victory. His busiest game was in a season-opening loss to De La Salle when he had 12 solo tackles and 17 total.
“James is a great kid and a good pick for this award,” Serra head coach Patrick Walsh told Cal-Hi Sports. “He’s one of the few returning defensive starters and provides critical leadership in the Padres tradition of strong defense.”
Outman’s teammate, wide receiver Brandon Monroe, was also considered for special teams honors with a 51-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Offensive Player of the Week
Kevin Cance (Leland, San Jose) Sr.
The Chargers’ quarterback was the homecoming hero in a 31-19 victory over cross-town Mount Hamilton League rival Leigh that gets Leland to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in league.
The 6-foot, 170-pound senior scored three different ways, passing for a touchdown, running for two more scores, and splitting the uprights for a 27-yard field goal.
In his previous game, Cance rushed for four touchdowns and kicked six PATs in a 49-41 victory over Piedmont Hills.
Le Boulanger South Bay/Peninsula
Special Teams Player of the Week
Xzavier Wilkins (Silver Creek, San Jose) Sr.
The 5-foot-10, 168-pound running back put two TDs on the scoreboard in a 43-22 win at San Jose High but neither of them came by rushing.
One of Wilkins’ scores came on an 80-yard kickoff return and the second came on an even longer interception Wilkins returned 85 yards to pay dirt.
With the victory, Silver Creek improved to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in Santa Teresa League action.

Emilio Martinez from Palma should have been nominated with his 260 yards and 5 TD performance in the hard-earned win against MBL rival Salinas 45-35.
Emilio did have a great game but Palma is not considered in the geographical area in which there are Le Boulanger locations people can go to. The South Bay in this honor program pretty much stops in the southern part of San Jose.
