1. (1) ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 3-0
It was a shaky first half but the Braves scored the game’s final 35 points as they defeated Central Catholic of Portland (Ore.) 42-14. Sean McGrew led the way on the drive that would tie the game at 14 with several big runs before punching it in from three yards out. Matchup against Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas in two weeks also continuing to look like it will be huge for mythical national title implications.

2. (2) DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 3-0
In a game that with the help of national TV didn’t want to end it was the Spartans who easily defeated nationally ranked Byrnes of South Carolina 56-28. If DLS beats Servite of Anaheim in two weeks, it’s a pretty safe bet it will be winning another section title and going straight to the CIF Open Division bowl game.

3. (3) MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 2-0
Did not play. The Monarchs will face an Upland team next week that was ranked No. 13 in the state before being defeated Friday by Tesoro.

4. (4) SERVITE (ANAHEIM) 2-1
Travis Waller passed and rushed for touchdowns in the first quarter as the Friars led 21-0 in a 56-14 win against La Mirada (which beat Tesoro in its first game). Maurice Davison also went 98 yards for a TD on an interception return.

6. (6) LONG BEACH POLY (LONG BEACH) 3-0
A fourth-down three-yard TD catch by Johnnie Rucker gave the Jackrabbits the momentum they needed in a 34-24 win over No. 9 Westlake of Westlake Village. Josh Love also threw for four TDs for Poly.

7. (8) ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 3-0
It was a one score game for most of the night against Narbonne of Harbor City before two late touchdowns, including a 90 yard touchdown pass from Blake Green to Desean Holmes, made the final score not as close as 51-30 would indicate.

8. (9) CHAMINADE (MISSION HILLS) 3-0
The Eagles trailed 7-0 just 19 seconds into the game and gave up a touchdown on the final play of the game but in between they did more than enough to get a win as they defeated Valencia 38-20. Ed Sias passed for three touchdowns with two of them in the early going to Jordan Chin.

9. (14) WESTLAKE (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 2-1
On the road against No. 6 Long Beach Poly, the Warriors opened up an early 14-0 lead and led 17-14 at halftime but momentum turned on a fourth and goal touchdown in the third quarter. Westlake ended up with a 35-24 defeat.

10. (12) CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 1-2
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Huskies as they led mythical national title contender Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nevada) 42-28 midway through the fourth quarter but ended up on the losing side of a 43-42 final score. Bishop Gorman converted on a 4th and long from deep in its own territory on its go-ahead drive and after scoring converted a two-point conversion to take the lead. The Huskies had a chance to drive down and win the game but turned the ball over near midfield with two minutes remaining.

11. (15) HELIX (LA MESA) 2-0
Did not play. Next game is next Friday at Cathedral Catholic (San Diego).

12. (16) OCEANSIDE 3-0
The Pirate defense has kept getting better since allowing 28 points in the season-opening win against St. Augustine of San Diego. They allowed just seven points last week against Mission Viejo before doing even better this week with a shutout during a 24-0 win over Chaparral of Temecula.

13. (20) UPLAND 2-1
The few times we got to watch a bit of this game it seemed like Tyler Hilinski had very little time to throw against a tough Tesoro of Rancho Santa Margarita defense. The Highlanders were held to just 14 points and suffered their first loss of the season 28-14 against the Titans.

14. (7) SERRA (GARDENA) 2-1
Khalil Tate rushed for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass as the Cavaliers bounced back from a loss to Bellevue of Washington to go on the road and defeat Carson 31-6.

15. (13) VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 1-1
Coach Coley Candaele’s team played Saturday at Del Oro (Loomis) and lost 22-15. Del Oro already had played a top team from Hawaii in addition to Helix of La Mesa. Vista only won its first game 14-13 over Downey. With Upland losing as well, this new CIFSS West Valley Division could be wide open.

16. (18) ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 2-1
Ricky Town had two touchdown passes in the 4th quarter as the Seraphs came from behind for the 21-10 win against Redlands East Valley of Redlands.

17. (22) JSERRA (SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO) 3-0
After scoring 40 and then 45 points in their first two games, the Lions put up 63 on the road against Huntington Beach as they defeated the Oilers 63-17. The scoring probably will be more of a premium when JSerra takes on No. 16 St. Bonaventure next week.

18. (23) GRANT (SACRAMENTO) 3-0
Picking up their third win of the season wasn’t easy for the Pacers as they trailed early and the game was tied 7-7 entering the fourth quarter. Three touchdowns in the final quarter, however, helped them defeat previously undefeated Bullard of Fresno 28-14.

20. (NR) SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SM) 3-0
Looking like the Eagles would have just a 7-3 lead at halftime against Dorsey of Los Angeles, K.J. Costello connected with Kyle Sweet on a 45-yard Hail Mary touchdown to end the first half. Santa Margarita went on for a 21-10 win. Costello passed for 319 yards and two touchdowns while Sweet caught 15 passes for 212 yards and a score.

21. (21) MISSION HILLS (SAN MARCOS) 2-1
Winning their second game in a row after opening the season with a loss to a state championship team from Utah, the Grizzlies had a 30-0 lead at halftime and went on to win 37-0 at Bonita Vista of Chula Vista.

22. (25) ELK GROVE 2-0
Spencer Sheff didn’t play much in the Herd’s first game, but he looks to be back and healthy as he rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns while also recording a safety on defense as the Thundering Herd defeated Lincoln of Stockton 29-7.

23. (NR) EDISON (FRESNO) 3-0
Andy Boogaard (@BeePreps) tweeted that the Tigers were badly outplayed in the second half but a 34-7 halftime lead held up in a 44-34 win against Merced. Also noteworthy from the game is that A.J. Greeley was ejected in the second half, which means he will have to miss Edison’s game next week against Clovis North of Fresno.

24. (10) BAKERSFIELD 1-1
Did not play. Next game is next Friday vs. Crenshaw (Los Angeles).

25. (NR) SAN RAMON VALLEY (DANVILLE) 2-1
Trailing James Logan 21-9 at halftime, the Wolves scored the next two touchdowns to take a 23-21 lead before giving up the game winning score with 7:23 remaining. Logan held on for a 28-23 win. Foothill of Pleasanton is now probably next in line to be No. 2 in the East Bay.
