The only school with three first-team choices on this year’s Cal-Hi Sports all-state softball teams for medium schools or small schools is Taft.
The Wildcats, who were No. 1 in the final Division IV state rankings with a 36-2 record and three straight CIF Central Section Division IV titles, were rewarded with three first team honorees on the all-state team for small schools.
Taft’s top two of catcher Caitlyn Emberson and pitcher Arizona Pilgrim were easy choices. Emberson, a junior, blasted away for a .587 average with 11 homers and 66 RBI. Pilgrim, also a junior, was the ace in the circle. She went 30-2 with a 0.76 ERA. Joining them as a first team all-stater is senior third baseman Haylee Tracy, who knocked in 51 runs and batted .505.
Alhambra of Martinez, which was regarded as Division II for the state rankings but qualified for medium schools, had two players on the all-state medium schools first team with one more on second team.
Also gaining a pair all-state picks for medium schools was Division III State Team of the Year St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs, CIF Central Coast Section Division III champion Notre Dame of Salinas, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champion Oakdale, CIF Southern Section Division III powerhouse North of Torrance and CIF Sac-Joaquin Section contender Pacheco of Los Banos.
Here are the 2014 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Softball Teams for Medium Schools and Small Schools (Note: Players from teams that were considered Division IV or Division V for our state rankings are considered small schools.
