Sophomore sensation Kaleena Smith and teammates from Ontario Christian are learning a big lesson after the 2024-25 season and that’s that the team that raises hardware at the end of a season almost always finishes No. 1 in the rankings. The Knights will look to complete a wire-to-wire No. 1 season a year from now. Photo: ocladyknightsbasketball / Instagram.com.
We can’t argue with the fact that our rankings are not totally in line with some state and national rankings. However, the one thing we have in our favor is in traversing up and down the state in the past five months, and covering dozens of teams and games, we have personally seen the first 14 teams and 34 of the 40 ranked teams in live action. No computer can make that claim. Our rankings also have 40 years of experience behind them. Just like the last 13 years that the CIF has gone to an Open Division and competitive equity to seed teams, the Final Expanded Rankings have generally been dominated by Open and D1 teams, and this year is no exception other than one team.
